Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a
Dev/Research Engineer 3. The work will be done
onsite full time in Irving, TX, with an initial
two-week training period in Mossville, IL. This is a long-term, 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is
up to $55/hour + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay). Job Summary The Dev/Research Engineer 3 will serve as the engineering interface between autonomous hauling application teams and base-machine systems teams, supporting the integration of autonomy hardware and software with heavy-equipment platforms. This role will collaborate across engineering teams to ensure system architecture, software, and hardware requirements are delivered on schedule while supporting development, testing, validation, and field activities. The engineer will also develop and maintain technical documentation, troubleshoot integration issues, and contribute to application software and algorithms for robotic platforms. This position offers significant exposure to autonomous systems, base-machine interfaces, and globally distributed engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities - Partner with autonomy systems integration engineers to ensure product architecture and system requirements are fulfilled.
- Collaborate with technical program managers, application architects, and base-machine teams to meet program requirements for schedule, cost, and quality.
- Coordinate base-machine software changes supporting command of autonomous hauling releases and related solutions.
- Support field data-collection activities, including design support, procurement, shipment of equipment, testing, and proving-ground activities.
- Develop architecture specifications, software design descriptions, verification plans, test cases, operating procedures, and safety procedures.
- Support verification and validation activities, including hardware-in-the-loop troubleshooting and proving-ground testing and development.
- Participate in the design and development of application software and algorithms for robotic and autonomous platforms.
- Work with validation teams to ensure integrated features function as intended and deliver field data-kit support.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, application, and communications issues in complex, multi-vendor environments.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline.
- 5–7 years of relevant professional experience.
- Strong technical knowledge with the ability to work independently as a self-starter and effectively collaborate within cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and structured methodologies for developing and managing software products.
- Extensive experience with software product testing, including test planning, test-case development, execution, reliability testing, and iterative/agile testing methodologies.
- Experience with application and system development tools and toolkits used to support production systems.
- Knowledge of relevant programming languages and tools used to write, test, debug, troubleshoot, and maintain source code and computer programs.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across hardware, software, applications, and communications systems.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work onsite full time and travel as required for initial training and occasional field/proving-ground activities.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience integrating software and hardware within autonomous, robotic, off-highway, mining, automotive, or other complex machine systems.
- Experience working across autonomy and base-machine interfaces.
- Experience with artificial intelligence concepts, technologies, or applications.
- Hardware-in-the-loop testing and validation experience.
- Experience working with globally distributed, cross-functional engineering teams.
- Strong project-management and requirements-decomposition skills.
