About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Integrations Developer to join an established enterprise applications team responsible for connecting critical systems across a large, complex business environment.
This is a hands-on development role with a strong emphasis on backend engineering, enterprise integrations, APIs, system programming, and data integrity. The team supports integrations across a broad application ecosystem that includes CRM, ERP, point-of-sale, web-based applications, third-party platforms, and other business-critical systems.
The ideal candidate is an experienced software developer who enjoys working at the intersection of applications and systems—understanding how different platforms communicate, designing reliable interfaces between them, troubleshooting complex integration issues, and building solutions that can operate reliably in a high-volume enterprise environment.
While experience across the full development stack is valuable, this position is heavily weighted toward backend development and system integration rather than front-end/UI development.
What You'll Do
Enterprise Integration & Backend Development
- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance integrations between internal applications and external platforms.
- Build and support backend services and interfaces connecting enterprise systems including CRM, ERP, POS, web applications, and third-party solutions.
- Develop and consume internal and external APIs using REST and SOAP-based services.
- Analyze existing systems and design modifications that improve performance, reliability, maintainability, and functionality.
- Develop solutions that maintain data accuracy and integrity as information moves between systems.
- Troubleshoot complex application, API, database, and integration issues across interconnected enterprise platforms.
- Work with existing applications while contributing to the continued modernization of the technology environment.
Software Development Lifecycle
- Participate throughout the software development lifecycle, with particular emphasis on development, testing, troubleshooting, and implementation.
- Assist with requirements gathering and technical solution design.
- Translate business and technical requirements into reliable, maintainable software solutions.
- Develop and execute automated testing where appropriate.
- Participate in code reviews and follow established development, documentation, and source-control practices.
- Work within an environment utilizing both Agile and traditional project delivery methodologies.
Collaboration & Production Support
- Partner with developers, application teams, business stakeholders, and other technology groups to deliver enterprise integration solutions.
- Communicate technical concepts and issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Manage multiple initiatives in an environment where priorities may shift based on business needs.
- Participate in rotational on-call support and system monitoring for business-critical applications and processes.
- Assist with troubleshooting and resolution of production issues, including occasional evening or weekend support when required.
What We're Looking For
Required Experience
- Approximately 5+ years of professional software development experience, with significant experience in backend or enterprise application development.
- Strong backend development skills with experience building and supporting complex enterprise applications and integrations.
- Strong programming experience with C#/.NET Core or comparable enterprise development technologies.
- Experience designing, developing, consuming, and troubleshooting RESTful and/or SOAP APIs.
- Strong relational database experience, particularly with SQL Server and/or Oracle.
- Solid understanding of system programming, application architecture, and data structures.
- Experience developing integrations between internal applications and third-party systems.
- Experience with Git-based source control.
- Experience working through multiple phases of the software development lifecycle.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues spanning multiple systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate within a cross-functional technology organization.
Preferred Experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be beneficial:
- .NET Core / C#
- Java
- JavaScript
- PHP
- Visual Studio
- SQL Server
- Oracle
- REST and SOAP APIs
- Docker and containerized development environments
- Kubernetes
- Jenkins
- CI/CD pipelines
- Automated testing
- Git
- Jira and Confluence
- React, Angular, NestJS, or Symfony
- Enterprise CRM, ERP, POS, retail, or web application integrations
Candidates do not need to possess every technology listed above. Depth in backend development, APIs, enterprise integrations, and the ability to work across interconnected systems will be more important than matching every tool or framework.
The Environment
This is an opportunity to join an established enterprise technology organization supporting systems that are critical to day-to-day business operations.
The Integrations team works across multiple applications and business functions simultaneously, so the environment is best suited for someone who is comfortable solving complex problems, collaborating across teams, and taking ownership of technical solutions rather than working within a narrowly defined development silo.
The organization continues to modernize its technology environment, providing opportunities to work with contemporary development, containerization, deployment, and integration technologies while also solving the practical challenges that come with connecting large-scale enterprise systems.
Location & Work Arrangement
This is a hybrid position requiring candidates to be based in the Chicago area and able to work from the company's downtown Chicago or northern Chicago suburban office as required.
Candidates should already be local to the market rather than planning a future relocation.
Occasional travel may be required, generally less than 5%.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This role offers an experienced backend developer the opportunity to work beyond a single application or product. You'll have exposure to a broad enterprise technology ecosystem and solve integration challenges involving applications, APIs, databases, and business-critical systems.
It's particularly well suited for someone who enjoys understanding how systems fit together, likes solving difficult backend problems, and wants to play a meaningful role in the continued modernization of a large enterprise technology environment.
