Job description

Assistant Manager Of Vehicle Maintenance

As an Assistant Manager of Vehicle Maintenance, you will have the responsibility and authority for decision-making and control of daily operations in assigned areas of the Vehicle Maintenance Division. You will also work with peer Vehicle Maintenance Assistant Managers to ensure adequate team support across the division. This includes supervising repairs, conducting performance reviews, creating work schedules, and other related duties.

Essential Duties

Supervise activities in repair, preventative maintenance, component rebuild, and body repair functions. Monitor procedures and documentation to ensure repairs are safe and effective. Monitor 24/7 facility operations and implement corrective action, recommending policy and procedure modifications as necessary.

Develop performance and training requirements for leads and employees. Monitor and analyze individual and division performance. Evaluate needs and procure the appropriate tools, equipment, supplies, and training for shop operations. Identify trends and address areas of need while maintaining compliance with State and Federal regulations.

Monitor vendor performance to ensure contractual requirements are met. Coordinate and negotiate with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to resolve issues with warranty repairs and recovery, equipment performance, purchases, and supplies.

Conduct, at a minimum, monthly one-on-ones with Leads. Develop work schedules and overtime assignments to meet operational requirements.

Hire, supervise, coach, discipline, and terminate employees as necessary. Resolve grievances at the first step, if possible. Research and provide documentation for responses to grievances. Recommend grievance solutions to Managers and Directors. May need to appear at hearings and arbitration, as required.

Assist in the development of the division's budget and practices. Monitor and authorize expenditures. Implement and reinforce division policies and procedures. Analyze changes in fleet size and facility requirements and advise the Manager and Director on changes.

Coordinate with various departments to support agency initiatives.

Perform other work of a similar nature or level.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

3 years of increasingly responsible fleet maintenance experience, including diagnostics and repairs.

3 years of general supervisory, lead, or management experience.

Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license by the date of hire and have a safe driving record.

An equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the job duties is also accepted.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Preventative maintenance processes.
  • Vehicle and equipment diagnosis and repair techniques.
  • State and federal regulations regarding health and safety in equipment maintenance (hazardous materials, lock-out/tag-out, respiratory protection, etc.)
  • Supervision and team management.
  • Performance management and review.
  • Budgeting and Cost-Benefit analysis.
  • Labor relations and contract administration.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • Familiarity with Community Transit policies, procedures, practices, and systems specific to agency vehicles.
  • Experience purchasing parts and maintaining inventory control.
  • Process improvements related to the safety, efficiency, or effectiveness of service operations.
  • Experience using Fleet Management Information Systems (FMIS).
  • Experience creating operating and maintenance reports.
  • Experience developing, interpreting, and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of workplace investigation, interviewing witnesses, and documentation procedures.

Working Conditions

Hybrid telework may be available. Availability is at management discretion and may not be available for this position based on the nature of the work. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the use of office equipment and technology. You will be required to move throughout and between different office buildings and may need to complete tasks in noisy environments. You may also be required to lift and carry materials up to 10 pounds occasionally.
