Assistant Athletic Director
Under the direction of the Director of Athletics and Physical Education and working collaboratively with the High School administration and in accordance with School Committee policy, the Assistant Athletic Director shall provide services required for the effective management of the high school athletic program. The Athletic Director is responsible for the effective management of the athletic program in order to promote the development of each student who participates in the program. The Athletic Director may also assist the Director of Athletics and Physical Education with providing instructional leadership for the District's Physical Education department.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Athletic Director will:
- Provide administrative support to the high school athletic program with the following duties and responsibilities:
- Assist with preparing the schedule for competitive events and schedule related bus transportation;
- Assist with public relations by providing scores and player information to media outlets and website in order to promote athletic events;
- Assist parents and students with routine information; and
- Serve as a liaison to coaches and students.
- Serve as the primary registrar for all student athletes, ensuring student eligibility and that all required forms are in order, and that all participation fees are collected, deposited and reconciled.
- Attend all afterschool and weekend athletic events as assigned by the Director of Athletics and Physical Education.
- Assist the Director of Athletics and Physical Education with:
- The preparation of the annual athletic budget;
- Monitor expenditures and track purchase orders;
- Prepare payment of officials;
- Assist with the training, supervision, and evaluation of all coaches;
- Assist with the interviewing and hiring of coaches; and
- Attend athletic recognition ceremonies and participate in the award ceremonies, including the purchasing of awards, publicizing of events, and handling other related tasks.
- Assist the Director of Athletics and Physical Education with providing instructional leadership for the District's Physical Education Department by assisting with:
- Curriculum development, instruction, and assessment;
- Supervision and evaluation of grade 9-12 teachers;
- Professional development of staff; and
- Other responsibilities related to the effective administration of the department.
- All other reasonably related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Athletic Administration, or related field (required); Master's Degree (preferred); Massachusetts Certification as a Teacher of Physical Education or related field (preferred); Supervisor/Director Certification (preferred); Effective interpersonal and leadership skills; Experience facilitating communication between divergent groups and in group decision making; Demonstrated success in the development, evaluation and implementation of secondary school programs; Effective administrative and management skills, including the effective utilization of computers, technology, and information management tools; Effective communication skills (speaking and writing skills); and Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Principal and Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Supplemental Information
Work Year: 261 days (July 1 - June 30). Individual contract.
Evaluation: Evaluated annually by the Director of Athletics and Physical Education.
