Mechanical Project Manager (PM - Mech)
The Mechanical Project Manager (PM - Mech) is responsible for the onsite planning, coordination, execution, and closeout of mechanical systems on large-scale data center construction projects. This role ensures delivery of mechanical scope (piping, cooling systems, ductwork and related infrastructure) safely, on schedule, within budget and in accordance with contract requirements and data center performance standards.
Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Experience includes 715+ years of experience managing mechanical scopes on large-scale construction projects. Proven experience with mission-critical or data center projects is strongly preferred. A strong understanding of HVAC systems, chilled water systems, and data center cooling strategies, along with demonstrated success managing subcontractors, project schedules, and budgets is required.
Travel: 35-50%
Work Schedule: This position works between the hours of 6 am and 6 pm, Monday through Friday.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Execution
- Lead all aspects of mechanical scope, including pre-site mobilization, site mobilization, commissioning, and project turnover.
- Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, and construction teams to ensure seamless project execution
- Manage project schedules, milestones, and deliverables to meet aggressive data center timelines
- Ensure mechanical systems align with design intent, specifications and owner requirements
Cost & Contract Management
- Develop and manage budgets, invoicing, forecasts and cost tracking for mechanical scope
- Oversee subcontractor agreements, purchase orders and change management processes
- Identify and mitigate cost risks; drive value engineering where appropriate
Coordination & Interface Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for mechanical trades, vendors, and stakeholders
- Coordinate with FTI electrical, controls and GC teams to manage system interfaces
- Coordinate commissioning activities with our manufacturing teams as well as our on-site install teams to ensure all aspects of the commissioning process is documented and accounted for regarding the mechanical systems.
- Support BIM/VDC coordination, clash resolution and design integration efforts
Field Oversight & Quality
- Partner with superintendents to ensure mechanical installations meet quality and safety standards
- Monitor field progress, productivity and manpower planning
- Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, specifications and commissioning requirements
- Support development of a site-specific mechanical quality plan that is in line with the owner's specifications.
Schedule & Planning
- Develop detailed manufacturing and execution plans to integrate mechanical scope into the master schedule
- Proactively identify risks to schedule and implement recovery plans as needed
- Review daily Takt progress, deviations and remediation plans
- Assist with coordination and development of Commissioning and Startup activities and sequence requirements.
- Lead weekly coordination meetings and progress reviews
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across all mechanical activities
- Ensure compliance with company policies, site safety plans, and regulatory requirements
- Support implementation of project-specific safety plans and procedures
- Monitor field activities and report safety concerns
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as a key mechanical liaison with owners, general contractors, inspectors, and design teams
- Provide regular updates on progress, risks, and performance metrics
- Support commissioning, testing, and final system turnover to the client
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
