The ideal candidate is a fast, detail-oriented CAD expert who enjoys getting into the weeds on mechanisms and part design, and who excels at translating a designer's concept into a functional, manufacturable product. Responsibilities span a variety of products across concept, design, validation testing, and manufacturing. This position reports directly to the Design Engineering Manager.

Job Responsibilities

  • Drive engineering improvements and manufacturing design changes across the existing product line, including legacy SKUs
  • Manage drawing database and file storage systems to maintain version control
  • Prepare engineering drawings, bills of materials, and technical documentation for manufacturing
  • Design and perform product characterization tests for new and existing products
  • Apply problem solving techniques and Root Cause Analysis to troubleshoot manufacturing issues
  • Work directly with overseas suppliers to evaluate designs, quotations and optimize for manufacturing (travel expected)
  • Provide technical support for a cross-functional startup team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; candidates from other technical or creative backgrounds with strong technical experience will be considered
  • 5+ years of experience engineering physical consumer products (toys, consumer electronics, housewares, or similar high-volume goods)
  • Experience taking multiple plastic parts through DFM, tooling, and into high-volume production, including troubleshooting.
  • Expert level CAD proficiency (Solidworks preferred)
  • Deep understanding of mechanics of materials, polymers and design for injection molding
  • Natural skill with, experience in, and love of model making and prototyping
  • Exceptional technical writing skills and verbal communication skills
  • Proven leadership and teamwork skills
  • Proven application of drafting standards and practices, and understanding of GD&T

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • This position requires prolonged periods of constantly sitting or standing at a desk.
  • This position requires constant operation of a computer and other office productivity machinery, including 3D printers and occasionally basic woodworking tools.

  • Work is expected to be performed on-site.
  • This person must be able to travel internationally at least 3 times per year.

  • 3 weeks PTO in year 1 + 14 paid holidays
  • Generous parental leave
  • Any equipment you need to get the job done
  • Free/discounted Lovevery products
