Job Title Registered Nurse - Intermediate Care (IMC) Job Summary This role is for an experienced Registered Nurse to join a dynamic Medical Intermediate Care Unit (Daly 6B) in Springfield, Massachusetts. This 42-bed unit is uniquely structured, operating as half medical-telemetry and half medical step-down, providing comprehensive care to a diverse adult patient population. The successful candidate will provide high-quality nursing care to patients presenting with a range of complex medical conditions, including respiratory failure, sepsis, DKA, COPD exacerbations, and cardiac issues. Nurses on this unit are expected to manage both medical-telemetry and intermediate care patients, adapting to varying acuity levels and clinical needs. Key Responsibilities Provide direct patient care for a diverse adult population within a 42-bed Medical Intermediate Care Unit. Manage patient assignments with expected ratios of 1:3 for Intermediate Care and 1:6 for Medical patients. Care for patients with conditions such as Pneumonia (PNA), COPD exacerbation, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic State (HHS), Alcohol Withdrawal, Gastrointestinal Bleeding (GIB), Sepsis, Pulmonary Embolism (PE), Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), and Respiratory Failure. Float to other units as needed to support hospital operations. Work collaboratively across both the medical-telemetry and intermediate care sides of the unit. Required Qualifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) license. Must reside outside a 90-mile radius from the facility. Preferred Qualifications 1-2 years of experience in an Intermediate Care, Step-Down, or Medical-Telemetry setting. Skills & Competencies Proficiency in managing patients with Tracheostomies (Trachs). Experience with Ventilator management. Competency in High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) therapy. Ability to administer and titrate Cardiac Drips. Experience with Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) therapy. Strong Telemetry monitoring and interpretation skills. Excellent critical thinking, assessment, and communication skills.
