Registered Nurse - Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) Job Title Registered Nurse - Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) Job Summary Join our dedicated team as a Registered Nurse in a Medical Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) located in Springfield, Massachusetts. This dynamic 42-bed unit, Daly 6B, is uniquely structured with half medical-telemetry and half medical step-down beds, providing comprehensive care to a diverse adult patient population. In this role, you will manage patients presenting with a wide range of acute medical conditions, including but not limited to pneumonia, COPD exacerbations, DKA, HHS, alcohol withdrawal, gastrointestinal bleeding, sepsis, pulmonary embolism, UTIs, and respiratory failure. You will be integral to monitoring and treating patients requiring advanced interventions such as telemetry, tracheostomy care, ventilator management, high-flow nasal cannula, cardiac drips, and BiPAP therapy. The unit fosters a collaborative environment where nurses are expected to work across both the medical-telemetry and medical step-down sides of the floor, maintaining patient ratios of 1:3 in IMC and 1:6 in medical. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive direct patient care for a diverse adult medical population within an Intermediate Care setting. Manage and monitor patients with acute conditions including PNA, COPD exacerbation, DKA, HHS, ETOH withdrawal, GIB, Sepsis, PE, UTI, and Respiratory failure. Administer and manage specialized interventions such as telemetry, tracheostomy care, ventilator support, high-flow nasal cannula, cardiac drips, and BiPAP therapy. Collaborate effectively across both medical-telemetry and medical step-down sides of the unit, adapting to varying patient acuity levels. Maintain expected patient care ratios of 1:3 in Intermediate Care and 1:6 in Medical. Float to other units as needed to support hospital operations and patient care demands. Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely. Required Qualifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) license. Minimum of 1-2 years of recent experience in an Intermediate Care Unit (IMC), Medical-Telemetry, or Medical Step-Down setting. Must reside outside a 90-mile radius from the facility. Competency in ventilator management. Skilled in high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) administration. Ability to manage cardiac drips and titrate medications effectively. Experience with BiPAP therapy. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to adapt to changing patient needs and unit demands.
