The University of Colorado School of Medicine (CUSOM) has a position open for Director of Teaching Scholars Program (TSP) under the Office of Medical Education's Academy of Medical Educators (AME) team. The established FTE for this role is 0.10-0.15 FTE. Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and applicants must be a board-certified physician with an MD or DO degree from an accredited University. This individual will start this position on January 1, 2027.

The Director of the Teaching Scholars Program (TSP) provides strategic leadership, oversight, and continuous improvement for the Academy of Medical Educators' flagship faculty development program. The Director is responsible for advancing the program's mission of developing future leaders in health professions education through a comprehensive curriculum focused on educational scholarship, curriculum development, mentorship, and leadership development. The position serves faculty across the Anschutz Medical Campus and collaborates closely with institutional leaders, program faculty, mentors, and the Academy of Medical Educators.

Key Responsibilities

  • 25 % - Program Leadership and Administration
  • Provide vision, direction, and operational oversight for the 18-month Teaching Scholars Program (TSP).
  • Ensure that TSP program goals, curriculum, and outcomes align with institutional priorities in faculty development and educational excellence.
  • Lead strategic planning, program evaluation, and continuous quality improvement efforts.
  • Manage annual program timelines, recruitment activities, application review processes, participant selection, and program completion requirements.
  • Oversee program communications and participant engagement throughout the 18-month program.
  • 15% - Curriculum Development and Delivery
  • Direct the design, implementation, and evaluation of the TSP curriculum, including seminars, workshops, retreats, and works-in-progress sessions.
  • Ensure content reflects current best practices in adult learning, curriculum design, educational innovation, leadership development, assessment, and educational scholarship.
  • Recruit, support, and coordinate faculty facilitators and guest presenters.
  • Maintain a learning environment that promotes collaboration, reflection, and professional growth.
  • 15% - Mentorship and Faculty Development
  • Develop and sustain a robust mentorship network for TSP participants.
  • Guide participants in identifying and working effectively with project mentors.
  • Provide direct mentoring and coaching to scholars regarding educational careers, leadership development, and scholarly activities.
  • Foster a culture of mentoring excellence and professional development across the program.
  • 15% - Educational Scholarship and Project Oversight
  • Support scholars in the development, implementation, dissemination, and evaluation of curriculum development, program evaluation, and medical education research projects.
  • Provide guidance on project design, educational scholarship methodologies, and dissemination strategies.
  • Monitor participant progress toward project completion and scholarly presentation.
  • Promote dissemination of scholarly work through presentations, publications, and institutional educational forums.
  • 15% - Program Evaluation and Outcomes Assessment
  • Establish meaningful program outcomes and metrics.
  • Collect and analyze participant feedback, program data, and longitudinal outcomes in an evidence-based and scholarly manner.
  • Prepare annual reports highlighting program achievements, participant accomplishments, and opportunities for program enhancement.
  • Utilize data to inform strategic program improvements and demonstrate impact.
  • 15% - Institutional Leadership and Collaboration
  • Represent the Teaching Scholars Program within the Academy of Medical Educators, Office of Medical Education, and across the Anschutz Medical Campus.
  • Develop partnerships with schools, colleges, departments, and educational programs to strengthen faculty development opportunities.
  • Advocate for educational excellence, faculty engagement, and educational leadership development.
  • Serve as a resource and consultant for educational innovation and faculty development initiatives.

Work Location: Onsite this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Instructor:

  • Candidates must be able to obtain an Instructor faculty appointment at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • Applicants must be a board-certified physician with an MD or DO from an accredited University
  • Applicants must have permission from their clinic or department to assume role

Senior Instructor:

  • Candidates must be able to obtain a Senior Instructor faculty appointment at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • Applicants must be a board-certified physician with an MD or DO from an accredited University
  • Applicants must have permission from their clinic or department to assume role

Assistant Professor:

  • Candidates must be able to obtain an Assistant Professor faculty appointment at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • Applicants must be a board-certified physician with an MD or DO from an accredited University
  • Applicants must have permission from their clinic or department to assume role

Associate Professor:

  • Candidates must be able to obtain an Associate Professor faculty appointment at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • Applicants must be a board-certified physician with an MD or DO from an accredited University
  • Applicants must have permission from their clinic or department to assume role

Professor:

  • Candidates must be able to obtain a Professor faculty appointment at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • Applicants must be a board-certified physician with an MD or DO from an accredited University
  • Applicants must have permission from their clinic or department to assume role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience demonstrating expertise in health professions education, faculty development, curriculum design, and educational leadership.
  • 2-3 years of experience in effective teaching and educational program development.
  • 2-3 years of experience mentoring faculty, trainees, or learners.
  • Advanced training in education, educational leadership, curriculum design, or a related field (e.g., MEd, MHPE).
  • Record of educational scholarship, including presentations, publications, or funded educational initiatives.
  • Experience leading faculty and educator development programs.
  • Experience with program evaluation and educational research methodologies.
  • Demonstrated success in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
