Job description

Embedded Systems Engineer

About the Role:

A well-established elevator systems manufacturer is seeking an experienced Embedded Systems Engineer to join its engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with strong expertise across both embedded hardware and firmware who is interested in modernizing existing control systems and developing innovative solutions for residential elevator applications.

The successful candidate will work closely with engineering and production teams to maintain and improve existing control platforms while designing next-generation microcontroller-based systems. This role offers the opportunity to work on hardware, firmware, PCB design, product improvements, safety compliance, and emerging technologies such as modern user interfaces and touch-screen controls.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design electrical controllers that meet or exceed applicable elevator safety codes and requirements, including ASME A17.1 and A17.5.
  • Learn, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve existing hardware and firmware for residential elevator control systems.
  • Engineer and design microcontroller-based mixed-signal circuit boards and embedded control systems.
  • Develop and implement product improvements that reduce costs while maintaining or improving reliability, functionality, and performance.
  • Modernize legacy control systems, programming platforms, and user interfaces through updated hardware and software technologies.
  • Evaluate and identify alternative electrical components that meet or exceed existing specifications.
  • Develop detailed electrical schematics, CAD drawings, and PCB layouts using DraftSight and/or PCB design software.
  • Design and support circuit boards using Altium PCB Designer.
  • Assist production teams by developing test fixtures, testing procedures, and work instructions.
  • Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for new controllers and electrical products.
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable industry standards, safety codes, regulations, and engineering best practices.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to engineering, production, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, presentations, and project updates.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for existing control system products.
  • Troubleshoot complex hardware and firmware issues and develop effective corrective solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development, testing, manufacturing, and implementation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Embedded Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with microprocessor- or microcontroller-based electronic controls and systems.
  • Proven experience in embedded systems development across both hardware and firmware disciplines.
  • Experience developing and writing code for microprocessor- and microcontroller-based systems.
  • Experience with Microchip software development, coding, testing, and documentation.
  • Ability to learn Assembly language and use modern tools, including AI-assisted development tools, to help translate legacy Assembly code into higher-level programming languages.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language with the ability to write and document clear, maintainable code.
  • Experience designing circuit boards, generating schematics, and performing PCB layouts using Altium PCB Designer or comparable tools.
  • Ability to understand the operation and function of mechanical hardware used in elevator and lift systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative engineering team.
  • Commitment to staying current with emerging technologies, industry trends, safety standards, and engineering best practices.

Why Join Us:

  • Work on innovative embedded control systems used in residential elevator applications.
  • Play a key role in modernizing established control platforms and developing next-generation technologies.
  • Gain hands-on experience across embedded hardware, firmware, PCB design, testing, and product development.
  • Work on projects involving microcontrollers, mixed-signal electronics, modern user interfaces, and high-speed communications.
  • Contribute directly to product improvements that enhance reliability, functionality, performance, and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and production teams in a hands-on environment.
  • Take ownership of meaningful engineering projects with opportunities for continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Join an organization that values creativity, innovation, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Comprehensive benefits packages.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • 401(k) employer matching.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
