Medical Technologist Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Medical Technologist to perform complex laboratory tests and procedures crucial for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The successful candidate will operate and maintain various laboratory instruments and equipment, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of all results. This role significantly contributes to patient care by providing timely and precise diagnostic information to clinicians in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The Medical Technologist will be responsible for validating, interpreting, and reporting results across multiple laboratory disciplines including Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Immunohematology, and Urinalysis. Adherence to all regulatory standards, quality control protocols, and safety guidelines is paramount to maintain the highest level of laboratory excellence and patient safety. Key Responsibilities Perform a wide range of routine and complex laboratory tests and procedures on biological specimens (e.g., blood, urine, body fluids) using both automated and manual methods. Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated laboratory instrumentation and equipment, performing troubleshooting and minor repairs as needed. Rigorously follow quality control protocols, documenting results, identifying deviations, and implementing corrective actions. Validate, interpret, and report test results accurately and efficiently, promptly communicating critical values to appropriate medical staff. Prepare reagents, stains, and solutions according to established standard operating procedures (SOPs). Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation of all testing, quality control activities, and instrument maintenance records. Adhere strictly to all laboratory safety regulations, institutional policies, and regulatory requirements (e.g., CAP, CLIA, TJC). Actively participate in proficiency testing programs and continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory performance. Assist in the training and orientation of new laboratory personnel and students as required. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related science field. Current certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent. Minimum of 1 year of recent experience as a Medical Technologist in an acute care or high-volume clinical laboratory setting. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Medical Technology or a related scientific discipline. Specialist certification (e.g., SBB, SM, SH) from ASCP. Experience with specific laboratory information systems (LIS) and advanced laboratory automation platforms. Skills & Competencies Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to interpret complex test results and effectively troubleshoot instrumentation. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in performing laboratory tests and documenting findings. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with interdisciplinary healthcare team members. Proficiency in operating, maintaining, and understanding sophisticated laboratory equipment and technology. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic, fast-paced laboratory environment. Solid understanding of laboratory quality control, quality assurance principles, and regulatory compliance standards. Computer proficiency, including experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and standard office software.
