Job description

Junior Mechanical Assembly Technician

Step into manufacturing with a hands-on role where you build real products from the ground up. As a Junior Mechanical Assembly Technician, you’ll assemble components and completed units by following drawings, work instructions, and production standards. You’ll learn alongside experienced assemblers and leads who will coach you on proper methods, quality, and shop safety. No previous manufacturing experience is required—just reliability, curiosity, and a mechanical mindset.

A Day in the Life

You start with a quick safety and work plan review. Then you gather parts, confirm part numbers, and walk through the day’s build steps. Throughout the shift, you will:

  • Assemble mechanical subassemblies and final products using written instructions, drawings, and visual aids.
  • Use common tools: screwdrivers, wrenches, sockets/ratchets, Allen keys, pliers, hammers/mallets, and cordless drills/drivers.
  • Measure parts accurately with a tape measure, ruler, and basic gauges.
  • Install fasteners, brackets, panels, hardware, and similar components.
  • Apply specified torque and verify fastener tightness when required.
  • Keep parts correctly oriented and aligned during builds.
  • Visually inspect work for damage, missing items, or incorrect installation and escalate issues to your lead or supervisor.
  • Assist with fitting and positioning fabricated sheet‑metal components.
  • Deburr, clean, and prepare parts for assembly; apply labels, identification tags, serial numbers, and product markings.
  • Package finished assemblies when assigned.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and use required PPE.
  • Support other production departments as needed.

What You’ll Learn

  • Blueprint and mechanical drawing basics
  • Electrical component installation
  • Basic wiring and routing practices
  • Connector and terminal installation techniques
  • Controlled fastening and torque specifications
  • Precision measuring tools
  • Production testing methods
  • Quality inspection fundamentals
  • Troubleshooting and rework
  • Advanced mechanical assembly
  • Manufacturing documentation
  • Assembly fixtures and tooling

Grow your capability and, with consistent quality, productivity, and reliability, you can progress to Assembly Worker II.

What You Bring

  • No prior assembly experience required—training provided.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and eagerness to learn.
  • Mechanical aptitude and safe use of basic hand tools.
  • Ability to read and use a tape measure.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Comfort with repetitive tasks while maintaining quality standards.
  • Keen attention to detail; able to spot incorrect parts and obvious defects.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Team-first attitude and willingness to assist where needed.
  • Commitment to a clean, safe, and organized workstation.
  • Adherence to production and quality procedures; pride in workmanship.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand and work at an assembly station for extended periods.
  • Frequent hand and finger use for handling tools and components.
  • Bend, reach, kneel, and perform typical manufacturing motions.
  • Lift and move parts within established company limits.
  • Work safely around production equipment and processes.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

How We Measure Success

  • Safety: Follows procedures and uses tools correctly.
  • Quality: Builds to spec and reports defects promptly.
  • Productivity: Maintains an appropriate, steady pace.
  • Dependability: On-time, reliable attendance.
  • Workmanship: Clean, accurate, detail-driven assembly.
  • Organization: Maintains tools, parts, and workspace.
  • Teamwork: Collaborates effectively with peers.
  • Learning: Embraces coaching and develops new skills.
