Description

Education and Outreach Director

Scope: The Education and Outreach Director leads the organization's education program, spanning clinical training, community education, family engagement, and academic partnerships. The role owns program strategy, execution, staffing, budget, and stakeholder relationships and directly supervises the staff who deliver this programming.

Duties:

Clinical Internship Program

Oversee recruitment, interviews, and onboarding of undergraduate, graduate and doctoral-level interns (Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, MFT, Psychology, Public Health, Psychiatry residents/fellows, and other disciplines), in partnership with Community Educator.

  • Support Community Educator in managing intern inquiries, application review, and interview scheduling (approximately 200 applicants/year)
  • Maintain and renegotiate university Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and liability insurance documentation
  • Plan and lead Intern Orientation Day(s) and onboarding requirements across all disciplines
  • Serve as primary point of contact for 20+ partner universities and programs
  • Coordinate medical student and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) Fellow placements, workstations, and supervision presentations
  • Offboard interns, including exit surveys and documentation, and maintain the Intern Handbook and related SOPs

Professional Advisory Board (PAB)

Plan and execute two PAB meetings annually with the Marketing team and Chief Medical Officer.

  • Secure speakers, coordinate event logistics, and apply for continuing medical education (CME) credit
  • Prepare event materials and speaker honoraria; complete post-event follow-up (evaluations, certificates, accreditation reporting)

Staff Education

Coordinate ongoing clinical and professional development training for adult and adolescent campus staff.

  • Assess staff training needs and schedule internal/external speakers (approximately 30+ events/year); personally facilitate staff trainings as needed, drawing on direct clinical experience
  • Apply for and track continuing education (CE) credits across accrediting bodies
  • Support Research to Practice Grand Rounds, the Evidence Based Care Ambassador Program, and Emory Grand Rounds partnership
  • Maintain staff training records in accordance with Joint Commission requirements

Community Education

Respond to and coordinate community requests for mental health education from schools, faith communities, corporate partners, and service organizations.

  • Identify speakers, manage event logistics, and secure CE credit approval across accrediting
  • Personally facilitate community education presentations as needed
  • Plan and execute special events (e.g., DCF) in partnership with the Development and Marketing teams
  • Create an asynchronous training program and track CE credits and approvals
  • Track attendance, survey data, and budget for all community programming

Family Education & Engagement

Coordinate family-facing education programming.

  • Oversee family-facing programming: STEP evenings (~40/year) and Weekly Welcome Sessions (~49/year)
  • Co-facilitate Weekly Welcome Sessions with the Family Peer Support Specialist
  • Recruit and coordinate STEP speakers; maintain the Online Family Guide and related communications
  • Respond to family inquiries about programming and resources
  • Support Family Peer Support Specialist initiatives, including the Spouse and Partner Support Group
  • Facilitate a psychoeducational family program for each of the 4 tracks
  • Build and deliver psychoeducational curriculum for each track to give family members understanding of their loved one's symptoms, needs, and behaviors

Cross Departmental Collaboration & Administration

Partner regularly with Adult/Adolescent Clinical, Communications, Development, Research & Outcomes, and Marketing teams.

  • Attend recurring departmental and organizational meetings (Operations, DEI, R&O, etc.)
  • Oversee education department budgeting and KPI/MOR tracking
  • Supervise and manage direct reports, including performance reviews and staff development
  • Maintain department SOPs and support organization-wide volunteer initiatives
  • Provide occasional board meeting presentations

The Education and Outreach Director supervises the Education Coordinator, Family Peer Support Specialists, occasional interns, and additional direct reports supporting these initiatives, and assists in select educational programming as outlined above.

  • Customer service, effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of safety, risk management, and emergency procedures, CPR/First Aid procedures
  • Openness to change; forward thinking, flexibility

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field required
  • Licensure in Georgia as LPC, LCSW, or LMFT, and prior clinical practice experience, preferred
  • Direct clinical experience providing mental health treatment or services
  • Demonstrated ability to independently plan, facilitate and provide community education and staff education trainings/presentations
  • Prior experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet, and e-mail applications
  • Ability to travel to attend conferences, sometimes working long hours and some weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of work experience with responsibility for developing, coordinating, and implementing large-scale events and educational programming
  • Experience working with continuing education and knowledge of accreditation standards
  • Experience in healthcare education
  • Able to work in a highly paced, dynamic environment
  • Experience in event planning, communications, or business is helpful
  • High level of ownership for project portfolio
  • Ability to prioritize, meet tight deadlines, and be a strong team player
