The Surgical Tech at Mass General Hospital plays an important role in the operating room and is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the operating room environment, as well assists with the peri-operative care of patients. Our environment is fast-paced, energetic, collaborative, and innovative with fourteen procedure rooms, two scope processing areas, and one motility room.
This role is an assistive role in providing patient care and other duties related to the preparation and maintenance of the GI Endoscopy suite environment. Shift requirement for Surgical Tech Endoscopy role is 40 hours (4'10's), Monday through Friday 7am to 5:30pm or 7:30am-6pm. One weekend shift every 6 weeks. One holiday every 12 months. On call Sunday and Holiday requirement is 8am-8pm. No overnight call.

Essential Functions include preparing the operating room for surgical procedures, setting up sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment required for the surgery, transporting patients to the operating room, helping with positioning on the surgical table, ensuring their safety and comfort during the procedure, passing instruments, supplies, and equipment to the surgical team during procedures, following proper sterilization techniques to ensure the cleanliness and sterility of surgical instruments and supplies, maintaining accurate and complete documentation of surgical procedures, collaborating effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other members of the surgical team, assisting in preparing the surgical site by applying sterile drapes and solutions, and securing and managing surgical drains and catheters as directed by the surgeon.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, experience as a Surgical Technologist I or in a similar role 0-1 year required and one (1) year experience as Surgical Technologist in a similar setting 1-2 years preferred. Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile techniques. Familiarity with surgical equipment and technology used in the operating room. Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle stressful situations during surgeries. Understanding of infection control protocols and patient safety measures.
