Working under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Maintenance Engineer coordinates daily assignments, outside contractors, and emergency response needs to maintain the campus to high standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with Operations staff and other departments to ensure all campus areas are maintained to high standards.
  • Monitor building access control and HVAC systems and respond to identified issues.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and work performed by outside contractors and vendors.
  • Perform snow removal for all campus sidewalk areas.
  • Schedule and maintain the campus irrigation system.
  • Maintain school vehicles and help ensure their safe operation.
  • Manage maintenance requests and ensure they are addressed in a timely and orderly manner.
  • Support events outside normal business hours and work overtime when necessary.
  • Assist with the setup and teardown of equipment for campus events.
  • Respond to emergency calls and participate in the on-call system.
  • Participate in professional growth opportunities.
  • Coordinate day-to-day work with other members of the Operations Department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Scope and Impact:

The Maintenance Engineer exercises judgment in prioritizing service requests, coordinating vendors, and responding to facility and safety concerns. The role directly affects campus safety, building reliability, event readiness, and the quality of service provided to students, employees, and visitors. The position does not have direct budget authority unless specifically delegated by the Director of Operations.

Qualifications - Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word and Excel, and the ability to use other job-related software.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, work overtime as needed, and participate in an on-call rotation.

Qualifications - Preferred:

  • Experience working in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) working knowledge of building maintenance practices, preventive maintenance, access control, HVAC, irrigation, snow removal, and vehicle upkeep.
  • Ability to diagnose routine maintenance issues and complete repairs safely and efficiently.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple work requests.
  • Clear, professional communication and a service-oriented approach when working with campus occupants, contractors, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of the Operations Department.
  • Sound judgment and responsiveness during emergencies and after-hours calls.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

Work is performed throughout campus buildings and grounds and may include indoor and outdoor conditions, exposure to seasonal weather, standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing, and the use of maintenance tools and equipment. The position requires the ability to lift at least 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work may occur outside normal business hours, during inclement weather, and in response to emergencies.

Compensation and Schedule:

This is a full-time, 12-month, non-exempt position with an hourly pay range of $30.00 to $36.00, commensurate with experience. The Maintenance Engineer is eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable law and School policy. The position requires flexibility to work outside regular business hours as needed, including providing event support, performing snow removal, responding to emergencies, and participating in the School's on-call rotation.

Performance Expectations:

Complete maintenance requests accurately, safely, and within reasonable timeframes based on urgency and operational priorities.
