Job description

Director Of Corrections Programs

Since 1993, The Pathfinder Network (TPN) has been providing justice-system impacted people and their families the tools and support they need to be safe and thrive in our communities. We serve individuals experiencing incarceration, those reentering the community, those on forms of community supervision, their families, and their children, both in the community at our Center for Family Success located in Multnomah County, within 11 of Oregon's 14 corrections facilities, at the Marion County Transition Center and jail, and at Jackson County Community Justice and Transition Center. We develop and deliver a comprehensive scope of evidence-based, trauma-, gender- and culturally-responsive cognitive behavioral-based programs, including our proprietary, evidence-based curriculum Parenting Inside Out, which is the highest-rated parenting skills curriculum for parents involved with the criminal justice system. Our community programs feature holistic wraparound individual and group support and services. We serve an average of 4,000 people a year agency-wide.

The Director of Corrections Programs provides strategic and operational leadership for The Pathfinder Network's Oregon Department of Corrections (ODOC) contracts and programming statewide, ensuring the effective delivery of high-impact services for justice system-impacted individuals and families. This role oversees contract administration, program implementation, compliance, evaluation, and continuous improvement for ODOC programming, while promoting evidence-based practices and program fidelity. As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Corrections Programs collaborates across departments and with community and state partners to advance organizational strategy and support TPN's mission and strategic goals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Staff Support, Training, and Supervision
  • Administration of Programs
  • Partnership Building and Community Engagement
  • Agency Leadership
  • Participation in Shared Leadership

Required Cultural Values include:

  • Communicate effectively, value one another, show respect, demonstrate accountability, display a high level of self-awareness, participate in shared leadership and continuous growth and learning, live values of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging and engage in personal work to further DEIJB values and impact.
  • Commitment to Racial Justice. Staff are expected to interact effectively across racially diverse teams, partners, and experiences, apply a racial equity lens in their work and commit to the ongoing work required to move TPN toward a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive and just organization.

Experience and skills we are interested in include:

  • Master's Degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, Public Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and significant relevant leadership experience.
  • Five or more years program management and service delivery experience.
  • Four or more years' experience supervising a diverse team.
  • Intermediate level computer capabilities in use of databases, web-based environments, word processing, email, and spreadsheets.
  • Experience working with justice-involved populations.
  • Experience in a corrections setting.
  • Experience working in nonprofit organizations and providing organizational leadership as part of an Executive or Leadership Team.
  • Experience managing grants and contracts.
  • Lived experience with the criminal legal system, incarceration, community supervision, and/or addiction and recovery is valued and strongly preferred, and is considered a meaningful qualification for this role alongside professional experience.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age to gain access to Correctional Facilities. As a requirement of TPN's contract with the Oregon Department of Corrections, all TPN employees who work inside DOC are required to meet DOC criteria for institution access. The following charges disqualify individuals from institution access: Misdemeanor conviction within the past 3 years or any felony conviction.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a motor vehicle during work hours that is covered by adequate car insurance.
  • Must complete a background check, employment verification, motor vehicle records check, and a drug screen that does not test for marijuana. Consistent with Oregon's ban-the-box law and TPN's values, conviction history is not requested until after an initial interview, is assessed individually against the duties of this position, and is not automatically disqualifying. Some partner facilities set their own clearance standards, which TPN will review with candidates before an offer is finalized.

Working Conditions/Travel Requirements include:

  • At times, you may be working in a secured detention or correctional settings.
  • The Pathfinder Network follows public health guidance for any public health emergencies and will remain in compliance with any vaccination or isolation requirements from partner agencies.
  • This is a full-time, exempt position. Typical days of work are Monday through Friday; however, evening and weekend work is required.
  • This position is based in Portland and is remote with frequent travel and programming visits after the initial training period.
  • Frequent travel is required between TPN work locations across the state of Oregon, which may require an overnight stay and can be without advance notice.
  • This position involves regular exposure to accounts of trauma, violence, incarceration, and loss through supervision of staff and review of incidents. TPN provides supervision structures, benefits, and confidential supports intended to address the cumulative effect of this exposure.

Compensation and Benefits: This is an exempt, full-time position. The hiring rate for this position is $83,158 - $85,653 per year, DOE. Salary offers are determined in conjunction with an internal pay equity assessment.
