Job description

Job Title: Dock Associate – Shipping & Receiving

Location: Avondale Area

Pay Rate: $19.00 – $22.00 / hour

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Dock Associate (Shipping & Receiving) for a manufacturing facility in the Avondale area. This role is responsible for facilitating and executing all daily dock operations.

To succeed, you must maintain high attention to detail, execute short- and long-term priorities, and keep the dock and shop floor structured and organized. You will communicate, coordinate, and take direction from key stakeholders, including the Director of Operations, Production Manager, and Supervisors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize Material

    • Unload incoming shipments from delivery trucks and organize materials on racks by customer and order number.

    • Maintain order and structure for incoming and outgoing materials across the dock and facility storage areas using a tow motor/forklift as appropriate.

  • Pack Material

    • Carefully package finished goods using properly sized shipping boxes, perforated foam, shrink wrap, and correct-sized skids to protect products during transit.

    • Prepare and print accurate shipping labels, packing slips, and Advanced Shipment Notice (ASN) labels in accordance with customer specifications (referencing requirement sheets, such as Hillman, as needed). Ensure no product leaves without proper documentation.

    • Log job-related data into the ERP system with accuracy, including clocking in/out, issuing materials, tracking completed/scrapped parts, closing jobs, and recording notes.

  • Safety Compliance

    • Adhere strictly to all plant health and safety protocols to eliminate safety occurrences.

    • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times (safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed shoes).

    • Safely operate tools, machinery, and equipment. Identify potential hazards, report them to supervisors, and correct safety issues where possible.

  • Coordinate Material Movement

    • Coordinate shipping processes, including obtaining truck quotes, generating packing slips, and scheduling carrier pick-ups.

    • Create Bills of Lading (BOL) detailing shipment type, quantity, and destination.

    • Verify incoming and outgoing material counts against BOLs and reconcile deliveries with packing slips.

    • Orchestrate truck arrival and departure schedules on-site, communicating with Finance and Sales as needed. Plan scrap/Masur bin emptying and pick-up.

  • Ancillary Duties

    • Flex to support other production floor tasks as directed to meet spikes in demand or cover coverage gaps (e.g., assembly, packing, powder coating, pemming, operating robot cells or spot welders, and occasional laser operation).

    • Travel as needed for on-site product installation for customers.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience: 2+ years of warehouse or manufacturing dock experience.

  • Equipment Operations: Demonstrated ability to operate a forklift; valid Driver’s License required.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 55 lbs. unassisted.

  • Core Competencies: Strong organization, keen attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Forklift Operator Certification.
