Summary:
-
Applies knowledge, methodologies, and principles of safety engineering as defined in MIL-STD-882 and software safety engineering as outlined in the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook.

Prepares System Safety Engineering analyses and generates documents in accordance with MIL-STD-882E and MIL-STD-2105 including PHAs, FHAs, SHAs/SSHAs, Bent Pin Analyses, Fault Tree Analyses, non-nuclear Munitions, and Software System Safety Analyses.

Identifies system safety issues, proposes solutions, and ensures appropriate action is taken to mitigate safety issues.

Develops, reviews, updates, and approves System Safety Artifacts and System Safety Requirements in coordination with Military Services' system safety review boards.

Applies system safety engineering principles in accordance with MIL-STD-882 and analyses such as preliminary hazard analyses, function/system/subsystem hazard analyses, fault tree analyses, software system safety analyses, and safety assessment reports.

Applies MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-2105 for environmental and munitions safety standards.

Analyzes, recommends, and drives safety into system design, equipment, and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards.

Understands requirements development, system and software architecture, hardware and software design, software code implementation, test, verification, and validation.

Applies system safety engineering within US Navy applications and associated deliverables and Safety Review Boards (e.g., FISTRP, WSESRB, HERO, Battery Safety Review).

Utilizes requirements development and system safety artifacts for safety compliance.
Requirements:

Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.

Must be a U.S. Person (as defined by ITAR).

8+ years of relevant experience (Advanced degrees may substitute for years of relevant professional experience).

Demonstrated ability to apply system safety engineering principles in accordance with MIL-STD-882 and analyses such as preliminary hazard analyses, function/system/subsystem hazard analyses, fault tree analyses, software system safety analyses, and safety assessment reports.

Demonstrated ability to apply MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-2105.

Ability to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment, and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards.

Ability to develop, review, update, and approve system safety artifacts and system safety requirements.

Understanding of requirements development, system/software architecture, hardware/software design, software code implementation, test, verification, and validation.

Bachelor's degree in STEM discipline (Advanced degrees such as Master's or PhD may substitute for years of relevant professional experience).

Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.

Preferred: Demonstrated ability to apply system safety engineering specifically within US Navy applications and all associated deliverables and Safety Review Boards (e.g., FISTRP, WSESRB, HERO, Battery Safety Review).
