Client Overview
You'd be working in the coding compliance department of a large nonprofit health system, reviewing and coding specialty physician charges for office visits, hospital care, and surgical procedures to support accurate billing and reimbursement.

- Specialty coding certification (Cardiology, GI, Oncology, OBGYN, Pulmonology, General Surgery, or Radiation Oncology)
- Electronic medical records and coding compliance software (Epic)
What You'll Do
- Analyze and interpret medical records to assign correct ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes
- Review and code surgical operative and procedure reports
- Work claim denials in follow up work queues and identify billing and coding improvement opportunities
- Support coding compliance monitoring and clinical documentation improvement programs
- Analyze denial trends in follow up and claim edit work queues for optimization opportunities
- Provide ongoing communication and education to providers on coding compliance and reimbursement
- Collaborate with billing, insurance, and customer service teams to resolve billing and coding issues
- Perform monthly coding change report analysis and communicate trends to providers
- Work weekly missing charge reports to identify missed billable charges
- Organize and participate in specialty provider meetings, including preparing materials and documenting minutes
What We Need From You
- 3 years of experience as a medical coder in a hospital or physician's office setting
- 1 year of experience as a specialty coder in Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Medical Hematology/Oncology, OBGYN, Pulmonology, General Surgery, or Radiation Oncology
- AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification
- Proficient in Epic software
- Expert knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS, and a strong understanding of the healthcare revenue cycle
Preferred / Bonus
- Specialty coding certification in a relevant area, such as Certified Cardiology Coder (CCC), Certified Gastroenterology Coder (CGIC), or Certified General Surgery Coder (CGSC)
