Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Injection Molding Process Technician to support injection molding operations in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of direct experience with injection mold setup and processing and be comfortable taking a job from mold installation and material preparation through machine startup, process adjustments, troubleshooting, and production of quality parts.
This position requires strong knowledge of injection molding processes and the ability to independently identify and correct processing issues across a wide range of materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and install injection molds in molding machines.
- Connect water lines, temperature-control systems, and other required auxiliaries.
- Prepare and load materials into dryers, hoppers, and material-handling equipment.
- Set up molding machines and initiate production cycles.
- Adjust processing parameters to achieve consistent, quality parts.
- Monitor processes and make adjustments based on part quality and machine performance.
- Troubleshoot injection molding issues and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Identify and resolve defects such as short shots/non-fill, sink, splay, gate blush, burning, flash, warpage, and other processing-related issues.
- Maintain proper material drying and processing conditions.
- Work with both commodity and engineered thermoplastic materials.
- Perform process optimization to improve part quality, consistency, and cycle performance.
- Work closely with production and quality personnel to resolve process and part-quality issues.
- Follow established safety, quality, and production procedures.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of hands-on injection molding setup and processing experience.
- Proven experience installing and setting up injection molds.
- Strong understanding of injection molding processing principles.
- Ability to start a molding job, evaluate the resulting parts, and make appropriate process adjustments.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting common injection molding defects.
- Experience processing a variety of thermoplastic materials.
- Experience with both commodity and engineered resins.
- Ability to work independently and effectively troubleshoot processing problems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Material Experience
- Experience with a broad range of injection molding materials is preferred, including both commodity and engineered/high-temperature resins.
- Experience setting up and operating different types of injection molding machines is preferred.
- Experience providing maintenance on molding machines of different press sizes is a plus.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is a hands-on Injection Molding Process Technician with the ability to manage the complete molding process - from mold installation and machine setup through material preparation, first-piece inspection, process adjustments, troubleshooting, and achieving consistent, specification-compliant production.
Strong practical troubleshooting ability and experience working with a variety of resins are critical to success in this position.
