Job Summary
We are seeking a Tech 2, Mechanical Engineering professional, to join our team in Brea, California. This role supports engineering and product development activities by performing routine technical tasks, conducting testing, maintaining technical documentation, and assisting engineers with laboratory and prototype development activities.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a laboratory, engineering, manufacturing, or regulated technical environment, with the ability to follow written procedures, perform testing accurately, document results, and work effectively within a cross-functional team.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data, including laboratory and material test results and engineering design changes.
- Prepare technical documents, reports, summaries, flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics.
- Perform quantitative analysis and communicate technical findings clearly.
- Provide technical support to engineers on a variety of engineering and product development activities.
- Assist with equipment selection, setup, qualification, calibration, and routine maintenance.
- Support general laboratory functions while following safety procedures and established protocols.
- Assist in developing prototype processes, test setups, and mechanical testing procedures.
- Execute designed test protocols and conduct testing according to written procedures.
- Handle test samples and chemicals used for conditioning and testing in accordance with safety requirements.
- Accurately document test results, observations, and technical data.
- Identify and communicate issues or factors that may impact project schedules, testing, or results to the manager or team lead.
- Develop solutions to routine technical problems within the assigned scope.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, technicians, laboratory personnel, and other cross-functional team members.
- Assist with training and providing technical guidance to lower-level technicians as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 4 6 years of experience in a laboratory environment, corporate or academic setting, or as a technician in a regulated environment.
- Experience following written procedures, test protocols, and safety requirements.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a technical team.
- Basic proficiency with personal computers and standard computer applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or another technical/scientific discipline.
- 1 2 years of experience in a laboratory, R&D, engineering, manufacturing, or product development environment.
- Experience performing mechanical or laboratory testing.
- Experience with prototype development, test setups, equipment qualification, or calibration.
- Ability to interpret and execute designed test procedures.
- Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve routine technical problems.
- Ability to train and support lower-level technicians.
- Experience working in a regulated or quality-focused environment is highly preferred.
