Description

About Us:
The Caturus platform founded by Kimmeridge – an alternative asset manager focused on the energy sector – supports Kimmeridge’s overarching goal of providing low-cost energy on demand with the lowest carbon footprint.

Kimmeridge’s vision in creating Caturus is to build the only independent, fully integrated natural gas and LNG export platform in the U.S. through a combination of its upstream operations and via Commonwealth LNG, a 9.5 million tonnes per annum liquefied natural gas export terminal in southwestern Louisiana on the U.S. Gulf Coast. The combined entities are committed to delivering responsibly sourced, low-emission fuel to domestic and international markets.

Caturus is a Houston-based, private exploration and production company seeking to materially grow production through development of deep, high pressure, dry gas windows of the Eagle Ford and Austin Chalk, as well as Haynesville formations located in Texas and Louisiana while maintaining a relentless focus on safety.

Commonwealth LNG was founded by industry veterans who decided to re-engineer the LNG construction model. Using proven best practices, Commonwealth is committed to building a world-class LNG export facility while focusing on safety, managing risk and achieving best-in-class environmental standards.

Job Description

Position Summary:
The Control Room Operator supports safe, compliant, and efficient operations by identifying production interruptions and equipment issues early, escalating appropriately, and maintaining accurate operational records. While this role does not have formal supervisory responsibility, it is essential for maintaining situational awareness across the asset base, coordinating information between field and corporate teams, and supporting the Production Superintendent in executing operational plans.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead with Safety

  • Make safety the foundation of all monitoring decisions and operational communications.
  • Follow and support company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Recognize abnormal or unsafe conditions through SCADA data and notify field personnel immediately.
  • Support Stop Work Authority by escalating safety concerns promptly and without hesitation.
  • Ensure emergency notifications and callout procedures are executed accurately and without delay.

SCADA Monitoring and Surveillance

  • Continuously monitor production, equipment, and flow conditions via SCADA, dashboards, and trend data.
  • Track wells, tank batteries, compression, gathering systems and facilities for abnormal pressures, temperatures, levels, rates, and run status.
  • Identify deviations from expected operating conditions and investigate root causes.
  • Perform remote operations such as starts, stops, setpoint changes, and resets within approved procedures and authority limits.
  • Monitor tank levels and coordinate with field personnel and haulers to prevent overfills and lost production.

Alarm Management and Response

  • Acknowledge, prioritize, and respond to SCADA alarms according to established procedures.
  • Distinguish between actionable alarms, nuisance alarms, and instrumentation or communication faults.
  • Notify Lease Operators, Leads, and Supervisors of alarms requiring field response and confirm resolution.
  • Escalate unresolved, recurring, or high-consequence alarms to the Production Superintendent and Production Supervisors as appropriate.
  • Report suspected instrumentation, communication, or automation failures to the Automation team.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Communicate clearly, proactively, and respectfully with Lease Operators, Leads, Supervisors, Automation, Engineering, and corporate teams.
  • Provide concise, accurate operational updates and status reports throughout the shift.
  • Ensure thorough and documented shift handovers, including open alarms, ongoing issues, and pending actions.
  • Serve as a reliable point of contact for field personnel during after-hours and weekend operations.

Data Integrity and Reporting

  • Ensure production, downtime, and operational data is entered accurately and on schedule.
  • Maintain a complete and accurate shift log of alarms, events, actions taken, and communications.
  • Document downtime events with accurate causes, start and end times, and volumes.
  • Reinforce attention to detail and accountability in all data entry and reporting.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve alarm rationalization, monitoring practices, and response procedures.
  • Recommend improvements to dashboards, screens, and reporting tools to enhance situational awareness.
  • Participate in post-event reviews and contribute observations and lessons learned.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset by seeking guidance when needed and pursuing ongoing professional development.
  • Practice humility and remain open to alternative approaches, feedback, and guidance.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in upstream oil and gas operations, control room operations, or a related technical field.
  • Previous experience in a control room, SCADA, or remote monitoring role is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of production equipment, facilities, and field processes, including separators, tank batteries, and compression.
  • Experience with compression, plunger lift, and gas lift is a plus.
  • Proficiency with SCADA systems, dashboards, trend analysis, and standard computer applications.
  • Ability to remain focused and make sound decisions during high-alarm volume or emergency conditions.
  • Solid understanding of upstream oil and gas safety practices, environmental compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to relay technical information clearly and calmly under pressure.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating across multiple teams.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and on-call or after-hours responsibilities.
  • Shall require occasional holiday coverage
  • Ability to sit and monitor multiple screens for extended periods and to occasionally visit field locations in a variety of South Texas weather conditions.
