This is a Department Promotional Examination and is limited to eligible employees of Kern County Aging & Adult Services. Examination Schedule

• Performance Exam: will be conducted on September 28, 2026
• Oral Exam: qualified candidates will be notified 5 days prior to the oral examination

Examination: Performance Exam (Weight 30%): The performance test is a job-related exercise which may include a work problem, consisting of analysis and writing. Oral Exam (Weight 70%): Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position. Examination components for promotional testing will be administered during the scheduled date(s)/time(s)/location(s) without exception. Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process. If the number of applicants successful on the performance exam is insufficient to merit an oral exam, the performance exam shall be weighted 100%.

Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards: Two years of experience as a Supervisor in a California Social Services Agency of which one and one-half (1.5) years must have consisted of supervising Eligibility or Social Services Program staff; or five (5) years social / eligibility work experience in a public, non-profit, or private social service agency of which two (2) years must have been comparable to a Social Service or Eligibility Supervisor. A college degree can substitute for six (6) months of the experience requirement, not including the one and one-half (1.5) years as an Eligibility or Social Services Supervisor.

Additional requirements: Possession of a valid California Class C drivers license is required upon appointment. This position works within the Aging & Adult Services Department.

Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date. A background check may be conducted for this classification. Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense. This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission. Candidates are encouraged to indicate acceptable geographical locations in which they would accept employment on their application form.
