Job description

Blue Ridge Public Radio (BPR), the nonprofit public media company of Western North Carolina, is searching for an Office Administrator. The Office Administrator provides broad administrative and operational support to Blue Ridge Public Radio (BPR), with primary responsibility for supporting the CEO/General Manager, Senior Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and organizational office functions. The position serves as an administrative hub for the station, helping ensure that information, meetings, records, communications, and day-to-day activities are organized and handled professionally and efficiently.

As a front-line representative of BPR, the Office Administrator regularly interacts with listeners, donors, sponsors, volunteers, Board members, community partners, vendors, and other members of the public. The position responds to and appropriately routes inquiries, coordinates meetings and organizational logistics, maintains records and files, supports Board and committee activities, assists with Business Sponsorship administration and billing, and provides administrative support for station events, volunteers, and other organizational needs.

A successful Office Administrator is highly organized, service-oriented, resourceful, comfortable balancing competing priorities, and able to exercise sound judgment and discretion. This position requires someone who enjoys helping others succeed and takes ownership of the administrative details that keep a busy public media organization running smoothly.

This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the CEO/General Manager.

Required Qualifications

  • Two or more years of relevant experience in administration, office coordination, customer service, executive support, or a related role.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and follow tasks through to completion.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when handling sensitive or confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, solve routine problems, and recognize when to seek guidance.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar productivity tools, and the ability to learn new systems and technology.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and provide responsive, service-oriented support to colleagues and a wide range of external constituents.
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing administrative support to executives, senior leadership, Boards of Directors, or committees.
  • Experience with meeting and event coordination, including preparing agendas, materials, and other supporting services.
  • Experience with billing, accounts receivable, database systems, or client account administration.

Compensation
The salary range is $52,000–$54,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
Benefits
Medical Insurance (80% paid), Dental Insurance (80% paid), Vision Insurance (80% paid), Short-term Disability, Long-term Disability, Life Insurance, Paid Vacation, Paid Sick Leave, Paid Holidays, 403(b) Retirement Plan with 5% Match, Phone/Internet Stipend, Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Culture
Blue Ridge Public Radio (BPR) exists to provide Western North Carolinians with a deeper understanding of one another and the world - by being an essential, independent source of trusted news and cultural content.

BPR is an independent, nonprofit news and media organization producing award-winning journalism and cultural programming that inspires, informs, connects, and reflects the people and places of Western North Carolina. Our two broadcast services and digital platforms reach more than 650,000 people across 14 Appalachian counties.

BPR’s blind initial screening process helps ensure fairness in hiring. Personal identifiers (such as name, gender, age, race, and educational institutions) are removed from initial materials so our review focuses only on each candidate’s skills and experience. This is one of the ways that we actively advance diversity, equity, and inclusion across our operations. We strongly encourage applications from individuals who identify as members of traditionally underrepresented or underserved communities.
