Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Middleware Engineer to join our client's project. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with enterprise middleware platforms, Java-based middleware architecture, Linux administration, enterprise integration patterns, and middleware automation.
The candidate will be responsible for engineering, integrating, automating, and supporting middleware platforms across virtual machines, bare metal, and container environments. This role will work closely with architects, application teams, and platform engineering organizations to support platform modernization, automation, and enterprise application integration initiatives.
Required
Extensive hands-on engineering experience with multiple enterprise middleware technologies, including IBM WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Liberty, IBM HTTP Server, Apache HTTP Server, Apache Tomcat, Red Hat JBoss/JBoss EAP, and Oracle WebLogic.
Deep expertise in Java-based middleware architecture, Linux administration, and enterprise integration patterns.
Proven experience integrating middleware platforms with enterprise applications, security services, monitoring tools, identity platforms, databases, messaging systems, and cloud services.
Demonstrated ability to design and develop POCs, pilot implementations, and automation solutions that accelerate middleware adoption and platform modernization.
Hands-on experience developing middleware automation using Ansible, including installation, configuration, patching, deployment, and operational workflows.
Hands-on experience with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and automation, particularly within AWS environments.
Experience working with APIs, web services, messaging technologies, and service integration frameworks.
Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills across middleware, infrastructure, networking, and application layers.
Experience engineering and operating middleware across VMs, bare metal, and container platforms.
Strong AWS experience, particularly deploying and operating middleware on EC2 rather than relying exclusively on managed middleware services.
Experience with Java runtime environments, including Oracle Java and OpenJDK.
Ability to work independently as a senior technical contributor while partnering effectively with architects, application teams, and platform engineering organizations.
Ability to work onsite 3 days per week in New York City or New Jersey.
Qualifications
Experience with middleware observability, logging, monitoring, and operational tooling such as Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar technologies.
Experience with enterprise messaging technologies such as IBM MQ, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices supporting middleware deployments.
Experience supporting financial services, banking, or other highly regulated environments.
