Job description

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (Level 3 RN) in the Emergency Department (ER) provides skilled nursing care in a fast-paced, high-volume Level I trauma center. The role involves treating a diverse adult patient population, managing telemetry patients, assisting with boarder patients, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team. This position requires prior travel ER experience and strong clinical skills to support emergency care needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients in a busy Emergency Department.
  • Manage telemetry patients and assist with boarding patients as needed.
  • Perform patient assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, and support staff.
  • Respond to emergency situations promptly and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities.
  • Adhere to hospital policies and protocols, including infection control and patient safety standards.
  • Participate in floating, holiday coverage, on-call, callback, and charge nurse duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Certifications:

  • Active Registered Nurse license in New York State (NY License ONLY).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Emergency Department nursing experience.
  • Telemetry experience with at least two (2) years required.
  • Previous travel ER nursing experience.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

  • Experience with electronic medical record systems, preferably EPIC in the same specialty within the last year.

Special Considerations:

  • Must be able to work in a high-acuity, fast-paced Level I trauma center environment.
  • Rotating blocked weekends schedule including day, evening, and night shifts.
  • Willingness to float to other units and cover holidays, on-call, and callback shifts.
  • ER does not support first-time travel nurses; prior travel ER experience is mandatory.

Scheduling:

  • 36 or 48 hours per week with day, evening, and night rotating blocked weekend shifts.
  • Shift schedules are determined by unit needs and may include floating and charge nurse responsibilities.
