About the Role
Beshay Enterprises is looking for a highly skilled, in-house, bilingual (Spanish/English) employment law paralegal to join our corporate Legal Department. This role is a critical bridge between our outside counsel, Human Resources, and our diverse workforce across California, Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Indiana. You'll help ensure compliance with employment laws, coordinate workplace investigations, and support dispute resolution efforts alongside outside counsel and third-party vendors.
Your native-level bilingual fluency will be put to direct use — conducting employee interviews, translating sensitive legal documents, and making sure every team member fully understands company policies and legal notices.
What You'll Do
Case Management
• Compile fact chronologies and maintain document control for voluminous employment records, including secure electronic filing systems.
In-House Employment Compliance
• Regulatory Monitoring: Track labor law changes across multiple states — wage-and-hour updates, new regulations, and local city ordinances — and keep Employee Handbooks current.
• Audit Support: Conduct internal audits related to payroll, meal and rest break compliance, and timekeeping records.
• Training Coordination: Help deploy mandatory workplace training (e.g., sexual harassment prevention) and verify completion rates across all locations.
• Workplace Investigations: Support internal audits and investigations by collecting, reviewing, and summarizing sensitive business records and witness statements.
Litigation & Claim Management
• Subpoena Response: Gather, review, and redact business records in response to third-party subpoenas and administrative requests.
• Litigation Holds: Issue and monitor corporate litigation holds to preserve relevant electronic data and physical files.
• Outside Counsel Liaison: Organize case files, coordinate document production, and compile fact chronologies to support outside counsel.
• Discovery Support: Assist outside counsel in drafting formal discovery responses, including interrogatories, document production demands, and requests for admission.
• Litigation Preparation: Prepare case files for outside counsel, track calendar milestones, and coordinate witness or expert testimony.
• Administrative Agency Filings: Manage electronic filings for administrative claims and draft responses to administrative agency complaints.
• Billing & Tracking: Review invoices from outside counsel and experts for accuracy and reasonableness.
Bilingual Support
• Workplace Investigations: Conduct and document witness interviews in both English and Spanish for employee relations and compliance matters.
• Document Translation: Accurately translate workplace policies, employee handbooks, separation agreements, and legal notices between English and Spanish.
• Employee Liaison: Serve as a trusted, neutral point of contact for Spanish-speaking employees navigating legal or administrative processes.
What You Bring
Education & Training (must meet at least one)
• Certificate of completion from an ABA-approved paralegal program
• A degree from an accredited postsecondary institution with a minimum of 24 semester units in law-related courses
• A bachelor's degree plus one year of law-related experience supervised by a California attorney in good standing (3 years)
• Active compliance with California's mandatory requirement of 30 hours of continuing legal education (CLE) every two years
Experience & Skills
• Language: Native or professional bilingual fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English is required (testing will be administered).
• Experience: 3–5 years of paralegal experience, including at least 2 years focused specifically on California labor and employment law.
• Corporate Background: Prior experience in an in-house corporate legal department or a fast-paced employment defense firm is preferred but not required.
• Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of California civil procedure and California employment law; excellent Microsoft Word and Excel skills; proficiency with enterprise software including Microsoft Office 365.
• Communication: Excellent written communication skills for proofreading and corresponding with corporate stakeholders.
• Judgment: Sound judgment in weighing the costs and benefits of potential actions to minimize risk, along with strong analytical thinking and ethical decision-making.
