Job description

Electrical Design Engineering Manager

SitelogIQ is a world-class team making a large-scale impact on the efficiency and sustainability of the places we live, work, shop, and heal.

SitelogIQ delivers turnkey energy efficiency and property improvement programs that transform built environments and breathe life into the sustainability, financial, and resiliency goals of real estate teams and corporations across the U.S. Our mission is to make buildings better while making it easy for our clients to accelerate their impact.

Our Electrical Design Engineering Manager will work out of our Commercial Markets Division and is a hands-on technical leader responsible for managing an internal team of electrical design engineers while overseeing the quality, consistency, and successful delivery of electrical infrastructure projects across multi-site client portfolios.

This position requires an active Professional Engineer (PE) license and combines engineering leadership, project oversight, technical design, quality assurance, and staff development. The manager will serve as the Engineer of Record when appropriate and provide technical direction for projects involving Level 2 and DC fast-charging EV infrastructure, interior and exterior lighting, distributed solar photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage systems, and standby or backup generation.

The ideal candidate is an experienced electrical engineer who enjoys developing early-career engineers, improving design standards, and solving complex infrastructure challenges for public- and private-sector clients, including school districts, municipalities, commercial organizations, and industrial operators.

Target Salary: $145,000 - $180,000 dependent on experience.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership and Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of electrical engineers and designers, with an emphasis on building the technical judgment and professional capabilities of early-career staff.
  • Assign projects and balance team workloads based on project priorities, technical complexity, schedules, and individual development goals.
  • Review engineering work, provide actionable feedback, and establish clear expectations for quality, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and career-development discussions.
  • Support engineers pursuing professional licensure and expanded project responsibilities.
  • Foster a collaborative, practical, and solutions-oriented engineering culture.

Technical Design and Engineering Oversight

  • Direct and participate in electrical system studies, calculations, equipment selection, design development, and construction-document preparation.
  • Oversee projects involving:
    • Level 2 EV charging infrastructure
    • DC fast-charging infrastructure
    • Electrical service and distribution upgrades
    • Interior, exterior, roadway, parking-area, and site lighting
    • Distributed solar photovoltaic systems
    • Battery energy storage systems
    • Standby and emergency generation
    • Automatic transfer systems, microgrids, and related controls
  • Review load calculations, short-circuit and coordination studies, voltage-drop calculations, arc-flash analyses, lighting calculations, and equipment ratings.
  • Evaluate existing electrical infrastructure and develop practical upgrade strategies that account for capacity, constructability, cost, operational continuity, and future expansion.
  • Provide technical guidance on utility service requirements, interconnection applications, permitting, equipment selection, and code compliance.
  • Sign and seal engineering documents when serving as the Engineer of Record.
  • Support construction administration through submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, field observations, commissioning support, and resolution of design or installation issues.
  • Manage utility interconnections for distributed generation (DG) projects and new service upgrades including handling negotiation of discretionary technical requirements with utility stakeholders.

Quality Assurance and Standardization

  • Establish and maintain engineering design standards, calculation templates, specifications, drawing details, checklists, and quality-control procedures.
  • Perform and coordinate technical and interdisciplinary reviews at appropriate project milestones.
  • Confirm that designs comply with applicable codes, standards, owner requirements, utility requirements, and permitting authority expectations.
  • Promote consistency and repeatability across programs involving multiple sites, jurisdictions, utilities, and construction phases.
  • Incorporate lessons learned from permitting, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations into future designs.
  • Help evaluate and implement engineering software, workflow tools, and design automation.

Project and Program Delivery

  • Provide technical and delivery oversight for individual projects and portfolio-scale programs.
  • Work with project managers to develop scopes, engineering fees, schedules, staffing plans, and deliverable requirements.
  • Monitor design progress, engineering budgets, technical risks, and resource constraints.
  • Identify potential schedule, permitting, utility, procurement, and constructability issues early and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, controls, energy, construction, and operations teams.
  • Support phased deployments and standardized design approaches across geographically distributed client facilities.
  • Maintain clear documentation of engineering decisions, design assumptions, deviations, and approvals.

Client, Utility, and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients throughout planning, design, permitting, construction, and commissioning.
  • Translate complex engineering issues into clear recommendations for technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Lead select high stakes technical meetings with clients, utilities, authorities having jurisdiction, contractors, vendors, and project partners.
  • Support facility assessments, feasibility studies, capital planning, electrification road maps, and infrastructure master plans.
  • Participate in proposal development, interviews, and technical presentations.
  • Identify opportunities to complete more "in-house" engineering scope.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
  • Active Professional Engineer license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, with the ability to obtain additional licenses through comity as required.
  • Typically, 10 or more years of progressive electrical engineering experience, including responsibility for design review and project delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, supervising, and mentoring electrical engineers and designers.
  • Strong experience with commercial, institutional, municipal, industrial, or distributed-energy electrical systems.
  • Experience producing and reviewing construction drawings, specifications, calculations, studies, and supporting cost estimates.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including the National Electrical Code, NFPA standards, energy codes, building codes, and relevant IEEE and utility requirements.
  • Experience coordinating with utilities and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with competing technical, schedule, and resource demands.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and client-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to travel periodically to client facilities and project sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with EV charging infrastructure, including fleet, workplace, public, or depot charging applications.
  • Experience with solar photovoltaic, battery energy storage, standby generation, microgrid, or load-management systems.
  • Experience delivering standardized programs across multiple sites, utilities, or permitting jurisdictions.
  • Familiarity with utility interconnection processes, distributed-energy tariffs, demand management, and electrical capacity planning.
  • Experience serving public-sector clients, including municipalities and school districts.
  • Experience with commercial and industrial facilities that require phased construction or continuity of operations.
  • Proficiency with relevant design and analysis tools, such as AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, EasyPower, SKM, lighting-analysis software, or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience with design-build, engineer-procure-construct, or owner's-engineer delivery models.
  • NCEES Record or the ability to obtain one.

Leadership Attributes

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead through sound technical judgment, clarity, consistency, and personal accountability.
  • Remain technically engaged while empowering engineers to take ownership of their work.
  • Treat design reviews as both quality-control and teaching opportunities.
  • Make practical decisions that balance safety, compliance, performance, constructability, cost, and schedule.
  • Communicate risks early and recommend clear paths forward
