Birons Youth Sports Center is hiring enthusiastic coaches for our preschool and recreational gymnastics programs in Houston. Since 1972, Birons has helped children build confidence, strength, coordination, and self-worth through sports.

You will teach engaging, age-appropriate classes for children ranging from infants participating with a parent through school-age recreational gymnasts. Previous experience in gymnastics, tumbling, dance, cheer, teaching, or youth development is preferred—but candidates with strong experience working with children and a genuine desire to learn are encouraged to apply. We provide paid training.

This is a part-time to full-time, on-site position. Available shifts may include weekday mornings, late afternoons, evenings, and Saturday mornings. Coaches typically work approximately 10-35 hours per week, with consistent schedules for each semester.

What You’ll Do

• Lead safe, energetic, and developmentally appropriate preschool or recreational gymnastics classes.
• Teach fundamental gymnastics skills using established progressions and lesson plans.
• Coach children on multiple events and apparatuses based on their age and skill level.
• Create a positive environment in which every athlete feels welcomed, encouraged, and capable of succeeding.
• Demonstrate skills, supervise stations, provide age-appropriate corrections, and maintain active engagement throughout class.
• Adapt instruction for different abilities, personalities, and learning styles.
• Set up and return equipment while keeping coaching areas organized and safe.
• Communicate professionally and encouragingly with athletes, parents, fellow coaches, and program leaders.
• Follow all Birons safety, supervision, and child-protection policies.
• Participate in paid training and ongoing professional development.

Requirements

• Professional or volunteer experience working with children in a structured environment.
• A positive, energetic personality and the ability to engage groups of children.
• Dependability, punctuality, sound judgment, and professional communication.
• The maturity to make responsible decisions and take initiative when problems arise.
• Strong organizational skills balanced with creativity, playfulness, and patience.
• Willingness to learn Birons’ curriculum, coaching progressions, and safety practices.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of coaching and safely assisting young athletes.
• Ability to pass all required background and child-safety screening processes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in gymnastics, tumbling, dance, cheerleading, or a related movement discipline.
• Previous coaching, teaching, childcare, camp, or youth-program experience.
• Knowledge of basic gymnastics terminology, apparatus, progressions, or spotting techniques.
• Relevant coaching, teaching, CPR, First Aid, or safety certifications.

Advanced gymnastics experience is welcome but is not required for every class assignment. Coaching responsibilities will be matched to each employee’s experience, training, and demonstrated abilities.
