Job description

Role: Backup Administrator – Veeam III

Work Arrangement: Onsite at Newport Beach, CA

Engagement Type: 12-Month Contract

About the Role

Our client, a leading financial services and insurance enterprise, is seeking an experienced Backup Administrator to join their Infrastructure Platform Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day administration, optimization, and monitoring of an enterprise-scale backup and recovery ecosystem.

A primary focus of this position is architecting and maintaining secure, immutable, object-storage-based data protection solutions that enhance ransomware resilience, disaster recovery, and business continuity across multi-cloud and data center environments.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain the enterprise Veeam Backup & Replication platform, including backup and replication jobs, repositories, proxies, and related infrastructure components.
  • Configure and oversee scale-out backup repositories (SOBR) and object storage targets (S3-compatible, Azure Blob, or on-premises object storage) for tiering, capacity planning, and long-term retention.
  • Implement and enforce data immutability, including object-lock controls and Linux hardened repositories, to defend critical data against accidental loss, corruption, and cyber threats.
  • Establish, optimize, and document backup schedules, retention rules, and replication policies aligned with organizational Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
  • Monitor daily backup workflows, proactively resolve job failures, and ensure high-availability success rates that satisfy established SLAs.
  • Execute and validate routine and ad-hoc recovery drills, covering file-level, application-specific, virtual machine, and full bare-metal restorations.
  • Protect diverse enterprise workloads spanning VMware, Nutanix, Windows Server, Linux, and cloud-native application environments.
  • Partner with cross-functional infrastructure and security teams on disaster recovery planning, offsite replication, and periodic ransomware recovery simulations.
  • Automate operational health checks, routine administrative tasks, and compliance auditing via PowerShell scripting or the Veeam REST API.
  • Generate capacity forecasts, utilization dashboards, and audit evidence for platform readiness and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in scheduled on-call rotations to deliver operational and recovery support for critical infrastructure events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise backup administration, disaster recovery, or storage and data protection operations.
  • Demonstrated expertise administering Veeam Backup & Replication within enterprise environments (proxies, repositories, WAN accelerators, and orchestration).
  • Hands-on experience configuring object storage targets (AWS S3, Azure Blob, or equivalent S3-compatible systems) and Scale-Out Backup Repositories (SOBR).
  • Working knowledge of Linux hardened repositories, immutability, and object-lock mechanisms for ransomware protection.
  • Experience protecting hybrid infrastructure across VMware vSphere, Nutanix AHV, Windows Server, and enterprise Linux distributions.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell or shell scripting to automate administrative, monitoring, and reporting tasks.
  • Strong diagnostic, root cause analysis, and disaster recovery execution skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE) or Veeam Certified Architect (VMCA) credential.
  • Experience executing major Veeam platform upgrades, appliance deployments, and legacy backup platform migrations.
  • Familiarity with enterprise monitoring platforms such as Grafana, Splunk, or Veeam ONE.
  • Background supporting secure data protection operations within highly regulated industries (., financial services or insurance).

Medical, dental, and vision insurance are available to qualified candidates who meet eligibility requirements.
