Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Bridgeport Operator / Manual Machinist to join our team in Westfield, MA. This is a full-time, direct-hire opportunity offering competitive pay, excellent benefits, PTO, and quarterly bonus opportunities.

The Bridgeport Operator will operate and maintain conventional machining equipment to produce precision metal parts, fixtures, tooling, and other components according to customer specifications, blueprints, tooling instructions, and established operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and break down conventional machine tools to meet production requirements.

• Operate and maintain Bridgeport mills and other manual machining equipment.

• Read and interpret customer blueprints, company operation sheets, dimensions, tolerances, and setup requirements.

• Produce parts and tooling according to verbal and written instructions.

• Calculate appropriate machining speeds and feeds.

• Inspect completed work using micrometers, calipers, indicators, preset gages, and other precision measuring equipment.

• Monitor tooling, take measurements, identify malfunctions, troubleshoot machining processes, and replace worn tooling as needed.

• Maintain tools, gages, machines, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.

• Perform daily equipment and work-area maintenance.

• Complete required production documentation, including job time and material usage.

• Follow AS9100/ISO 9001 requirements, including documentation, revision control, traceability, and lot control.

• Follow company safety and 6S procedures and wear required PPE.

• Report problems, discrepancies, or equipment issues to the appropriate supervisor.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Technical/trade school training preferred.

• Proven experience as a Manual Machinist, with hands-on Bridgeport experience.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Strong organizational and time-management skills.

• Basic computer skills.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

• Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and company operation sheets.

• Ability to use precision inspection equipment including micrometers, calipers, and indicators.

• Ability to set up, operate, break down, and maintain equipment such as:

  • Bridgeport

  • Prototrak-controlled equipment

  • Jig bore

  • Jig grinder

  • Surface grinder

  • Manual lathes

  • Honing machines

• Must successfully complete and maintain the company's Certified Operator Program.

Working Environment & Physical Requirements

This position is performed in a production manufacturing environment and may involve exposure to machine noise, moving equipment, sharp metal parts, fumes, dust, mist, oils, cutting fluids, and forklifts.

The position may require occasional travel between the Westfield and Southwick facilities.

Candidates must be able to:

• Lift up to 30 pounds as required.

• Stand and walk for extended periods.

• Push, pull, bend, reach overhead, climb stairs, and sit as needed.

• Read applicable customer documents with or without corrective lenses.
