Job description

The Department of Romance Studies at Boston University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in French, beginning July 1, 2027.

Since its founding in 1839, Boston University has embraced a mission of openness and access, becoming one of the first universities in the nation to welcome all students of ability regardless of race, gender, or creed. That tradition shapes our enduring commitment to academic freedom, free inquiry, and the robust exchange of ideas. Please visit https://www.bu.edu/values/ to learn more about our shared values.

We seek scholars who will contribute to our community of teachers and researchers through excellence in innovative scholarship, engaged teaching, and participation in the intellectual life of the University. We seek individuals who demonstrate excellence in student-centered teaching and a commitment to inclusive and innovative language teaching practices.

Responsibilities include teaching six courses per year, from beginning to advanced language and culture, coordinating multi-section language courses, leveraging digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning, and contributing to curriculum development in a dynamic and collaborative language program. Ability to teach Italian or Spanish would be an asset. The starting salary for this position is $72,000. The position offers a professional career track with possibilities for advancement. Please visit our website for more information about the Department of Romance Studies: https://www.bu.edu/rs/.

Other materials (such as course evaluations, sample course materials, and/or a link to an unedited video of one of your class sessions) may be requested later in the interview process. Applications submitted through a method other than AcademicJobsOnline will not be considered. The application deadline is October 7.
