Job description

BI Manager

Founded in 1966, Niterra North America, Inc. (formerly NGK Spark Plugs) is the world leader in technology, innovation, and world-class quality in the design of spark plugs and oxygen sensors. Today, that tradition continues as we transform our organization's portfolio, expand our core ceramic technologies, explore capabilities beyond traditional areas, and challenge ourselves to develop solutions and services that leverage technology to address social issues while contributing to a sustainable society.

The BI Manager is responsible for leading the Business Intelligence team and serving as a strategic business partner to Sales and cross-functional teams through category, customer, market, and performance analysis. Based in Wixom, Michigan, this role integrates complex data sources to generate actionable insights, supports strategic planning and sales forecasting, and develops BI and reporting tools that drive sales, profitability, and category growth. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership and people-management skills, advanced analytical capabilities, and deep Category Management expertise.

Salary: Exempt

Work Model: Hybrid

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and lead Business Intelligence (BI) team members by providing coaching, mentorship, guidance, and performance support to build a high-performing and analytically strong team.
  • Lead and support CBO Business Unit and key account strategic planning processes by integrating internal and external data, identifying key business and customer issues and opportunities, and developing actionable recommendations to inform strategic decisions.
  • Serve as a strategic business partner to Sales and cross-functional teams by providing category, customer, market, competitive, and performance analysis to support effective business strategies and tactics.
  • Proactively identify business needs, performance gaps, and opportunities for improvement, and lead ad hoc analytical and strategic projects to ensure timely, high-quality completion.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to evaluate product lines, optimize product assortment and shelf merchandising, and develop pricing and promotional recommendations that drive sales, profitability, and category growth.
  • Conduct ongoing analysis of market, customer, competitive, and industry dynamics, including macroeconomic and automotive industry developments, to identify emerging trends, risks, and growth opportunities.
  • Monitor and validate market share performance and historical trends to identify opportunities for existing and prospective products, providing actionable recommendations to Sales, Product, Marketing, and Executive leadership.
  • Develop and maintain standardized and ad hoc reporting solutions using internal and external data sources, efficiently managing large, complex datasets to deliver accurate, concise, and actionable reports and presentations within established timelines.
  • Develop and enhance customized BI and reporting tools that enable Sales teams to effectively communicate sales performance, market trends, category insights, and business opportunities to customers.
  • Identify and implement technology, analytics platforms, and process improvements, including Power BI and Looker, to enhance data capabilities, reporting efficiency, and team technical skills.
  • Communicate business performance, market intelligence, analytical findings, and strategic recommendations to Sales, BI, Executive leadership, and Niterra Global Headquarters through regularly scheduled business reviews and quarterly updates.
  • Lead and coordinate BI activities supporting CBO sales forecasting processes to ensure accurate, consistent, and timely forecasts that meet annual GHQ requirements.
  • Manage the annual BI department budget within a zero-based budgeting environment and coordinate the CBO annual budget summary process to support effective planning, resource allocation, and cost management.
  • Support and validate customer pricing activities, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with individual customer data-load requirements.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and related functions to leverage data and analytics in support of production, inventory, warehousing, demand, and order planning to effectively meet customer requirements.
  • Perform all other job-related tasks as assigned.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures as applicable.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of Category Management experience within Retail/Mass Retail, Retail/Aftermarket, or Non-Automotive industries.
  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or people-management role.
  • Strong leadership, people-management, coaching, and team-development skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate and analyze multiple complex data sources to generate actionable insights and develop clear, data-driven action plans.
  • Advanced analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize and interpret information from multiple sources and identify relationships among data, trends, business drivers, and market events.
  • Strong understanding of Category Management principles, including assortment planning, sales and profitability analysis, pricing, merchandising, and category performance optimization.
  • Proven experience developing, managing, and executing projects, with strong project planning, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Category Management and business intelligence tools, such as JDA/ProSpace and Microsoft Power BI.
  • Excellent verbal, written, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex analytical findings into clear business recommendations for diverse audiences.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Google Workspace and data visualization/analytics platforms such as Looker.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively partner across functions and influence business decisions.
