Job description

Flipany Community Wellness Educator

Flipany is disrupting the way health and wellness support is offered to communities that have been historically ignored. We serve nutritious food, encourage healthy eating and get people to move. Whether we are working with partners to connect families to food, teaching kids to dice veggies or kick a ball, or designing customized health and wellness programs, Flipany takes an active, "hands-on" approach. We incorporate life skills into all of our programs to increase the emotional wellbeing and resilience of the kids and families we serve. We push beyond boundaries and explore every opportunity to offer creative health and wellness initiatives that will inspire people to transform their lives forever.

Position Overview:

We are looking for someone who wants to be part of making their community healthier, connected and genuinely invested in the lives of the youth they serve.

Flipany serves youth, adults, and seniors across South Florida through four core areas of work: out-of-school meal programs (Afterschool Meal Program and Summer BreakSpot), senior meal programs, food pantries, and hands-on wellness and nutrition education delivered directly in the community. These include nutrition education and interactive, hands-on food and wellness activities. This position works directly with our community partners throughout Palm Beach County, including schools, after-school centers, community centers, and city-run sites.

This role begins in the classroom with youth. This role is ideal for a passionate individual prepared to mentor and guide youth through social-emotional learning activities and wellness experiences that promote healthy lifestyle habits. This is a part-time role at 16 hours per week. Instructors must be available Monday through Friday between 1:30 and 6:00 p.m. Shifts are assigned on a biweekly basis as classes are scheduled.

For those who thrive in this role, Flipany offers opportunities to deepen their work in the community through expanded responsibilities across our programs, including our Healthy Meals Out of School department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience working with groups of children, with a genuine passion for youth development.
  • Background in Child Development/Behavior, Psychology, or other Social Sciences through education or hands-on experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle for travel to program sites.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A personal commitment to health and wellness, and the ability to model and communicate its value to youth and families in an authentic way
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong administrative and time management skills
  • A natural relationship builder who collaborates effectively with youth, site staff, and partner agencies with a people-first approach
  • Calm and adaptable under pressure, maintaining professionalism when unexpected situations arise
  • Comfortable with technology (iPad, mifi), completing real-time tasks including documentation, surveys, and photo uploads efficiently in a field setting
  • Accountable and reliable, managing multiple responsibilities and consistently meeting deadlines
  • Available for occasional evenings and weekends for community outreach or fundraising events

Key Responsibilities:

  • Arrive prepared to each class with all materials, supplies, and equipment packed and ready, handling setup and cleanup at the site for each session
  • Deliver in-person wellness and nutrition education classes to groups of 1520 youth, following Flipany's program guidelines and curriculum
  • Guide youth through hands-on activities including healthy cooking using tools such as blenders and skillets, gardening, nutrition education.
  • Maintain a positive and structured learning environment throughout each session, addressing behavioral challenges as they arise
  • Plan ahead for each class by reviewing curriculum, ordering supplies, and confirming site details and scheduling in advance
  • Complete real-time class documentation including attendance, surveys, and photo uploads using a Flipany-issued tablet
  • Maintain accurate mileage reports for all program-related travel
  • Communicate proactively with site staff to ensure sessions run smoothly, build strong relationships with partner organizations, and ensure sites uphold program agreements
  • Report back to the Flipany team on class progress, site issues, and cohort updates in a timely manner
  • Maintain knowledge of Flipany's programs and services in order to connect youth, families, and site staff to additional resources and opportunities
  • Support and supervise volunteers, interns, or AmeriCorps members assigned to assist in class delivery
  • Participate in required training, curriculum review, and ongoing professional development as directed
  • Monitor programs, conduct site visits, and ensure compliance with Federal Food program regulations.
