Job description

Senior Companion Program Manager

Provide operational leadership for the Senior Companion Program, overseeing volunteers, community partnerships, compliance, budget and funding, data, reporting, and service quality to achieve program goals.

The following description is a general representation of the key duties and responsibilities of the position.

  • Work with Volunteer Manager to assign Senior Companion volunteers to community agencies based on service needs and availability of stipend funds; accepts volunteer requests, matches volunteers to assignments, and coordinates scheduling.
  • Supervise, support, and evaluate volunteers in accordance with agency policies and applicable funder requirements; conducts and oversees annual performance evaluations and addresses issues affecting volunteer service.
  • Work with the Senior Companion Advisory Committee, station liaisons, case managers, and community partners to address volunteer concerns, strengthen service delivery, and ensure program success.
  • Conduct volunteer orientation, monthly in-service training, and regular visits to volunteer stations to monitor program compliance and service quality.
  • Develop, implements, and evaluates program outreach strategies in collaboration with Marketing and Communications to increase program awareness and utilization.
  • Responsible for planning of the project by assessing the systemic community needs and annually completing an analysis of budgets and staffing needs.
  • Assist in preparing grant proposals, budgets, and other funding requests to sustain and expand services.
  • Prepare statistical and narrative reports for Benjamin Rose, government agencies, funders, and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee program records, volunteer files, staff documentation, and other program materials to ensure compliance with agency policies, procedures, and funder requirements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of data required for volunteer stipend processing, billing, and reimbursement, and coordinates submission to the Accounting Department.
  • Manage the program information system/database, ensuring accurate and timely data entry, compliance with agency and funder requirements, and production of reports as needed.
  • Collaborate with local, regional, and state volunteer programs and professional associations to share information, identify best practices, and pursue service delivery and funding opportunities.
  • Participate in local and national Senior Corps meetings and forums to maintain partnerships, share best practices, and stay informed of emerging priorities and opportunities.
  • Complete monthly volunteer stipend processing and related administrative functions.

Demonstrate financial stewardship by managing resources effectively, overseeing budgets, interpreting financial information and identifying opportunities to improve financial performance and sustainability.

Provide effective leadership by developing high-performing teams, coaching and mentoring employees, managing performance and accountability, fostering engagement, communicating clearly and transparently, leading change, exercising sound decision-making, and promoting continuous learning.

Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal teams, clients, community partners, referral sources, and external stakeholders to strengthen services, support organizational priorities, and advance the mission.

Leads effective and compliant operations by overseeing programs, applying quality improvement practices, using data to inform decisions, implementing best practices, improving processes, and effectively managing operational responsibilities and resources.

Advance program growth and sustainability by identifying emerging needs and opportunities, improving services and practices, pursuing innovation and implementing strategies that align with organizational goals.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position.

  • A bachelor's degree in social work, business administration, or related field or a combination of education and/or additional job-related experience in lieu of the degree.
  • Strong verbal, written, oral and electronic communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience working with databases or program information systems.
  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with volunteers, staff, community partners, funders, and other stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle information confidentially.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in adult learning methods and training processes.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel regularly to program and volunteer sites.

35 years of experience in program management, community services, volunteer management, aging services, or a related field.

Prior experience supervising staff and/or volunteers and managing program operations.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard and telephone.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
  • Light to moderate lifting is required, up to 15 pounds.
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required.
  • Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
  • Ability to work in a confined area.
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
  • Work environment is stressful at times.
