Redwire Space Solutions has an opportunity for an RF Engineer I at our facility in Longmont, CO. This is an early-career role for an engineer who wants to build a strong foundation in RF systems engineering through modeling, simulation, and analysis. Working alongside senior RF engineers, you will develop and correlate simulation models of RF components and systems, build the software tools that make our analysis faster and more repeatable, and follow those designs through build, test, and delivery. We are building RF systems for new space and multiple domain communications architectures. This requisition is aimed at candidates completing a bachelor's degree in December 2026, with an anticipated start date in January 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, correlate, and maintain RF simulation models of components, subassemblies, and end-to-end systems using industry standard tools such as Keysight ADS, in order to predict performance and evaluate design trades ahead of hardware build.
  • Perform RF component data sheet review and trade studies to compare candidate devices and optimize RF system architecture and performance against gain, noise, linearity, power, size, and cost objectives.
  • Build three-dimensional electromagnetic models of RF devices and assemblies in Ansys HFSS, including cavity and enclosure analysis of active devices, to characterize resonances, coupling, and packaging effects that drive gain, isolation, and stability.
  • Perform schematic capture and layout of RF printed circuit boards, applying high-frequency design practices such as controlled-impedance transmission lines, grounding and return-path management, and isolation between stages.
  • Develop and maintain scripts and software utilities that automate simulation setup, measurement data reduction, and report generation, improving the throughput and repeatability of the RF team's day-to-day analysis work.
  • Apply engineering principles to ensure designed components and systems meet all requirements such as operational frequency range, signal to noise ratio, system linearity, and stability.
  • Support the development, qualification, and delivery of high-performance RF systems for space and multi domain environments, under the guidance and mentorship of senior RF engineers.
  • Support RF characterization and verification activities in the laboratory and during flight build, test, and delivery. Assist with test setup, collect and process measurement data to verify specifications, and correlate measured results back to simulation models.
  • Interface with multi-disciplinary team members to optimize component and system designs that meet all technical, cost and schedule requirements.
  • Support the development, management, and maintenance of system designs and their associated documentation - CAD, Drawings, BOMs, analysis reports, and test procedures.
  • Contribute simulation results, analysis products, and supporting data to project stage-gate reviews (such as PDR, CDR).

Ideal Experience

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Engineering with an electrical specialty, Applied Mathematics, or Physics, with coursework, undergraduate research, or project focus in RF design and analysis. Candidates completing their degree in December 2026 are encouraged to apply.
  • 0-2 years of professional experience. Internship, co-op, undergraduate research, or teaching and laboratory assistant experience in RF, electronics, or hardware development is considered in lieu of full-time industry experience.
  • Hands-on knowledge of RF simulation techniques and software, including circuit- and system-level simulation of RF components and signal chains and/or three-dimensional electromagnetic modeling of RF structures.
  • Working knowledge of RF fundamentals, including S-parameters, impedance matching, transmission lines, gain and noise figure cascading, linearity, and stability.
  • Proficiency with at least one scripting or programming language, such as Python, MATLAB, or C++, and a demonstrated interest in applying software to automate engineering analysis, data processing, and repetitive design tasks.
  • Familiarity with schematic capture and printed circuit board layout tools, such as Altium Designer, Cadence, OrCAD, or KiCad.
  • Familiarity with standard RF characterization tests and test equipment such as vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators and power meters, gained through coursework, laboratory, or internship experience.
  • Must be a US Citizen or US Person as defined by ITAR

Desired Skills

  • Experience with Ansys HFSS and Keysight ADS. Alternatively, experience with other RF Finite Element and Method of Moments simulation software is highly desirable.
  • Experience building three-dimensional models of RF devices for cavity or enclosure analysis of active circuitry.
  • Experience developing scripts, analysis templates, or model libraries that were adopted and reused by other engineers on a team.
  • Depth in RF printed circuit board design, including multilayer stackup definition, substrate and dielectric material selection, via transitions, and shielding or compartmentalization of sensitive stages.
  • Coursework or project experience with antennas, amplifiers, filters, mixers, or frequency conversion chains.
  • Prior internship or co-op experience in an aerospace, defense, or other ITAR-controlled engineering environment.
  • Interest in designing hardware for satellites, UAVs, or other platforms with limited size, weight, and/or power budgets.
  • Exposure to design for manufacturability and to optimizing designs for testability and production.
  • Familiarity with digital design and hardware description languages such as Verilog, as applied to mixed-signal or RF control interfaces.
  • Demonstrated leadership or active involvement in a technical student organization or professional society, such as IEEE or Eta Kappa Nu.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365, including SharePoint and Teams.
  • Ability to thrive and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with strong verbal and written communication skills.

Salary range: $91,000 - $101,000/year
