Reports to: Assistant Head of School for Positions supervised: EL Early Learning Academics and Programs Faculty and Staff
Job Status: Work Schedule: Monday - Friday FLSA Status: Exempt 12-month / Full- 7:30 am 3:30 pm Time
Position Summary
The Principal of Early Learning supervises all aspects of Galloway's Early Learning program. This includes:
- Activities for grades PK3 through 4;
- Responsibility for the supervision, evaluation and development of Early Learning faculty and administrative staff;
- Collaboration with other school administrators in the oversight and alignment of curriculum and other programs;
- Being attentive to culturally-responsive teaching, aware and expert at early learning curriculum and pedagogy.
- Setting the tone for the level by reflecting high professional standards, integrity, and demonstrated commitment to excellence, within and beyond the classroom;
- Lead the Early Learning Administrative team, including the Assistant Principal, Early Learning Administrative Assistant, and student support team; and
- Being warm, welcoming, and responsive to parents and families.
The ideal candidate will be a proven administrator or department leader, with background in a student- centered, experiential education, and be able to work with a dynamic faculty, diverse student population, and dedicated parent community. They should also have a warm collaborative nature, positive energy, be a consensus builder and decisive decision maker, understanding the importance of accountability and consistency in managing people, programs, and initiatives. They possess superior organization and prioritization skills and are self-motivated in the completion of their work. They have excellent skills in communication and technology, including outstanding writing and public speaking skills. They possess a deep commitment to the regular evaluation of curriculum, academic programming, and faculty growth with an eye towards vertical and horizontal alignment, relevant and intentional student experiences, and cutting-edge teaching and learning.
Principal Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, supervise, support, and advance all matters related to the administration, faculty and staff, operation, budget, policies, procedures, facilities, and structures of entire Early Learning program
- Provide strategic leadership to faculty/staff to support and advance the strategic mission of the school
- Maintain effective communication with faculty, staff, students, parents, and school Leadership Team
- Develop, maintain, and ensure that all policies and guidelines for faculty, staff, and students are in keeping with the mission and educational best practices for positive student conduct
- Work in cooperation with other academic leaders on all crossover issues of educational programming and academic integrity
- Maintain a highly visible, positive profile and provide effective, appropriate, and accurate communication
- Recruit top and diverse candidates for consideration for teaching employment and provide onboarding and support to new staff;
- Maintain exceptional attention to detail while staying adaptable in high pressure situations
- Work directly with the Center for Teaching and Learning team on faculty growth and renewal; Participate in the Project Learning Team, serving as the advocate and representative for Early Learning
- Other duties as needed to successfully complete the job or as assigned by the Assistant Head of School for Academics and Programs and/or the Head of School

- A minimum of five years teaching/administrative experience in an independent school
