Registered Nurse (RN) | Labor Delivery Recovery & Postpartum

About the Position

Shift: 12hr Day Shift - 36
Shift Information: 7a-p
Clinical Interviewing- Yes - Manager Approval to Offer
On Call, Call Back Requirements: 12 hour shift every 6 weeks
Weekend Rotation: 5-6 shifts on a 6 week schedule (5-6 out of 12)
Holiday Requirements: must work one day of each major holiday- either 11/26 or 11/27 AND 12/24 or 12/25 AND 12/31 or 1/1
Floating Requirements: float between Mother Baby, Antepartum and L&D

Unit Information: Beds: 2
Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years Postpartum RN experience
- Will you accept a first-time traveler: Yes
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: Vaginal and C-section deliveries, at time overflow hysterectomies but not often
Patient Ratios:
- RN: 1:3-4 couplets
- CNA: 2-3 per shift
Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- BCR (Basic Cardiac Rythm) required - meaning traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of Compliance
- ACLS
- NRP
- Fetal Monitoring
Skills required:
- Strong clinical assessment and Mother Baby skills for Level 1 Trauma Hospital
- IV insertion and care, central line management
- Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams
Support within the Department:
- CNA: Duties: Yes - assist with VS, Glucose Checks, baths, feeding, ambulating patients, assisting turning patients, hourly rounding, transporting patients as needed (Hospital has designated Transport Team); obtain blood from blood bank
- Receptionist/HUC: Unit secretary on unit 7a-11p; then house wide call secretary 11p-7a
- Charge nurse – may have patients
- Phlebotomy: Most units are lab collect phlebotomy; nurses drawn from CVLs
- IV/VAT Team: Not an IV team - do have a PICC team
- Resource Nurse: Yes, we have discharge nurses, resource team floats to all units
- RT 24/7: yes
- Hospitalist 24/7: yes
- Intensivist 24/7: yes
- Telemetry monitoring/tech: Central Telemetry Unit
Technology/Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC
- IV Pump: Alaris
- Med dispensing: Pyxis
- Monitors: Phillips
Unit specific equipment:
- VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips Cardiac Telemetry monitoring
- Portable vital signs monitors (Dynamapp)
- PCA pain management
- Bladder scanners, IV pump, portable oxygen system
- Glucommander
- Suction machine
- Use of admission/ discharge protocol for rapid turnover
Floating: All adult med surg / telemetry units in house
Orientation (facility and unit):
- 1 day orientation with work on educational modules
- 2 days departmental

- Scrub Color: L&D surgical green w/ scrub exchange system
- Parking: Free: Have free parking around campus or can pay to park in parking decks
