ABOUT THE ROLE

A leading publicly traded commercial bank with $80B+ in assets is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead operational accounting across a broad range of banking activities. This high-visibility role will serve as a key accounting partner to front-, middle-, and back-office stakeholders, with ownership over complex operational accounting and the accounting implications of new products, systems, and business initiatives.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on accounting leader with strong technical skills and experience managing people. This individual will serve as an accounting gatekeeper for new products and system implementations, oversee month-end close activities, and drive improvements across the general ledger, subledger processes, controls, and automation. The role offers $150, 000 $180, 000 base salary, plus bonus and equity, depending on experience, and is four days per week onsite.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage daily operational accounting and month-end close activities
  • Oversee accounting across investments, borrowings, foreign currency, cash management, leases, fixed assets, and other operational areas
  • Serve as the accounting representative for new products, system implementations, and business initiatives
  • Evaluate transaction flows and establish appropriate accounting requirements and GL mapping
  • Review GL account reconciliations and monthly and quarterly variance analyses
  • Lead UAT and testing related to accounting systems, subledgers, and process changes
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot accounting and operational issues
  • Prepare schedules and reporting for internal stakeholders and external auditors
  • Support financial statement audits and related disclosure requirements
  • Lead automation and process improvement initiatives across operational accounting
  • Manage, mentor, and develop accounting professionals while promoting continuous improvement


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within banking or financial services
  • 2+ years of people management experience
  • Strong experience leading month-end close and operational accounting processes
  • Experience with complex transaction flows and general ledger accounting
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience supporting new products, system implementations, and accounting process changes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot issues through resolution
  • Experience with GL, subledger, UAT, and accounting systems
  • Strong internal controls and accounting policy experience
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional stakeholder management skills
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
