Prioritized Must Have Skills for the Electrical Engineer II:
#1. 3-5 years of electrical engineering/product development experience, preferably involving the design and development of electronic products or assemblies.
#2. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline.
#3. Hands-on experience designing and developing electronic circuitry, PCB assemblies, and electronic systems from concept through manufacturing.
#4. Embedded firmware development experience using Assembly, C and/or C++.
#5. Experience integrating PCBAs and electronic components into physical products, including collaboration with mechanical engineering and product design teams.
#6. Strong troubleshooting and testing experience using electronics test equipment, data acquisition equipment, and prototype/test fixtures.
Responsibilities of the Electrical Engineer II:
Product Development
- Lead and contribute to the design, analysis, development, and evaluation of new electronic products and improvements to existing products.
- Develop electronic solutions from initial concept through prototype, testing, validation, and manufacturing.
- Design electronic circuitry for products incorporating lights, lasers, measurement equipment, controllers, and connected electronic devices.
- Participate in product brainstorming, concept development, and technical definition.
- Apply sound electrical engineering principles and established product development practices throughout the development process.
PCB & Electronic System Development
- Manage PCB/PCBA development from concept through production.
- Select and evaluate electronic components required for product development.
- Work with suppliers to optimize component selection, design, manufacturability, and product cost.
- Integrate PCB assemblies and electronic components into custom housings, mechatronic systems, and finished products.
- Support design-for-manufacturing activities and transition products into production.
Embedded Firmware
- Develop and support embedded firmware for electronic products.
- Program embedded systems using C, C++ and/or Assembly.
- Work closely with hardware engineers to integrate firmware with electronic circuitry and product systems.
- Troubleshoot firmware and hardware issues during prototype development, testing, and production.
Prototype Development & Testing
- Design and build fixtures for prototype evaluation and product testing.
- Develop and execute product test procedures and validation activities.
- Utilize data acquisition equipment and electronic test equipment to evaluate product performance.
- Troubleshoot electronic systems using appropriate laboratory and SMT rework equipment.
- Analyze test results and identify root causes of hardware, firmware, and system issues.
Product Quality & Standards
- Develop, maintain, and manage product standards, specifications, and test instructions.
- Support DFMEA, DVP&R, and other engineering analysis and validation activities.
- Ensure designs and products meet applicable industry standards and requirements.
- Develop detailed product specifications and contribute to technical documentation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with product designers, mechanical engineers, quality engineers, manufacturing, suppliers, and other engineering teams.
- Support connected product development in coordination with mobile application/software development teams.
- Provide technical leadership and support to other engineering staff and technicians.
- Manage multiple development projects simultaneously while meeting accelerated product timelines.
Requirements for the Electrical Engineer II:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent preferred.
- Approximately 3-5 years of relevant electrical engineering/product development experience.
- Strong understanding of electrical and electronic engineering principles.
- Hands-on experience with electronic circuit design and PCB/PCBA development.
- Experience with embedded firmware development using C, C++ and/or Assembly.
- Experience integrating electronics into physical products and working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Experience with prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and validation.
- Working knowledge of data acquisition equipment and testing principles.
- Experience using electronics troubleshooting equipment and SMT rework equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced product development environment.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and serve as a technical resource to other engineers and technicians.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications for the Electrical Engineer II:
- Experience developing consumer products, outdoor products, sporting products, or other physical/electronic products.
- Experience with connected products and electronics that interface with mobile applications.
- Experience with DFMEA and DVP&R.
- Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, FDA, or other applicable industry standards.
- Experience with product cost reduction and design optimization.
- Experience with manufacturing and supplier coordination.
- Firearms or shooting-sports product experience is a plus.
- Passion or strong interest in outdoor products and activities is a plus.
Other Key Requirements:
- 100% onsite
- The position involves a combination of office, engineering laboratory, prototype, and plant environments. The engineer may need to move throughout the facility and handle equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds. Some exposure to outdoor environments, uneven ground, climbing, and general manufacturing/plant hazards may be required.
- Occasional off-hours participation in business meetings or company events may be required.
