Prioritized Must Have Skills for the Electrical Engineer I:
#1. 2+ years of electrical engineering experience, preferably in new product development or electronic product development.
#2. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline.
#3. Hands-on experience with electronic circuitry and PCB/PCBA design or development.
#4. Experience integrating PCBs and electronic components into physical products, housings, or mechatronic systems.
#5. Experience with prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and validation of electronic products.
Responsibilities of the Electrical Engineer I:
New Product Development
- Execute assigned electrical engineering design, analysis, development, and evaluation activities.
- Support new product development projects from initial concept through prototype, testing, and manufacturing.
- Apply sound electrical engineering principles to product designs while following established engineering practices and product requirements.
- Contribute technical ideas and solutions during new product conception and development.
- Support improvements and upgrades to existing electronic products.
Circuit & PCB Development
- Design and develop electronic circuitry for a variety of outdoor products and accessories.
- Develop PCB designs and interfaces to support product functionality.
- Integrate PCBs and electronic components into custom housings, mechatronic systems, and finished products.
- Work closely with Product Designers and Product Engineers to ensure proper electrical and mechanical integration.
- Support PCB and electronic assembly development through production release.
Prototype & Testing
- Build or assist with construction of fixtures required for prototype evaluation and testing.
- Develop and maintain product test instructions and standards.
- Participate in product qualification and validation activities.
- Troubleshoot electronic systems and identify design or component issues.
- Utilize appropriate electronics troubleshooting and test equipment.
- Support data acquisition and testing activities.
Components & Sourcing
- Identify electronic components, equipment, and materials required to support product development.
- Provide technical assistance to purchasing in the selection and sourcing of electrical components.
- Assist with component and design decisions before and after production release.
- Support product cost-reduction initiatives and design optimization.
Embedded Software/Firmware
- Support software and embedded firmware development activities as needed.
- Apply embedded programming knowledge using Assembly, C and/or C++ where applicable.
- Work with electrical and software/firmware engineers to support hardware and firmware integration.
Documentation & Product Standards
- Generate and assist with development of product specifications.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation, standards, and test instructions.
- Support compliance with applicable industry and product standards.
- Assist with documentation required to move products from development into manufacturing.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with Product Designers, Product Engineers, senior Electrical Engineers, manufacturing, purchasing, sales, marketing, and other departments.
- Communicate technical information clearly to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
- Manage assigned projects and priorities in an accelerated product development environment.
- Work independently on assigned engineering activities while seeking guidance from senior engineering staff when appropriate.
Requirements for the Electrical Engineer I:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent preferred.
- 2+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience preferred.
- Experience with electronic circuit design and development.
- Experience with PCB/PCBA development and electronic component integration.
- Experience supporting new product development or physical electronic products.
- Experience with prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and validation.
- Working knowledge of data acquisition equipment and testing principles.
- Familiarity with electronics troubleshooting and SMT rework equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with senior engineers and cross-functional teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability and willingness to learn new technologies, products, and engineering processes.
Preferred Qualifications for the Electrical Engineer I:
- Embedded firmware development experience using Assembly, C and/or C++.
- Experience programming in a Windows operating environment.
- Experience with DFMEA and DVP&R.
- Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, FDA, military, or other applicable industry standards.
- Experience with electronic consumer products, sporting products, outdoor products, instrumentation, controls, lighting, lasers, measurement equipment, or similar physical products.
- Experience with mechatronic systems.
- Experience supporting product cost reduction and design optimization.
- Experience working with manufacturing and external suppliers.
- Firearms, shooting-sports, hunting, or outdoor-product experience is a plus.
Other Key Requirements:
- 100% onsite
- Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection are required when working on the manufacturing floor. Additional PPE, including safety footwear, may be required depending on the assigned work area.
- Occasional off-hours participation in business meetings or company events may be required.
