Job description

SIOP Director

SMTC Corporation was founded in 1985. SMTC is a mid-size provider of end-to-end electronics manufacturing services (EMS) including PCBA production, systems integration and comprehensive testing services, enclosure fabrication, as well as product design, sustaining engineering and supply chain management services. SMTC has facilities in the United States, Mexico, China and Canada. Services extend over the entire electronic product life cycle from the development and introduction of new products through to the growth, maturity and end-of-life phases.

The SIOP Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading an integrated Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning process across the company's global electronics manufacturing operations. This position oversees the end-to-end demand planning and demand-to-supply balancing process to improve forecast accuracy, capacity alignment, inventory performance, customer service, and operational decision-making.

Working cross-functionally with Commercial, Program Management, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Operations, this role consolidates customer and business demand into a reliable planning outlook and translates demand signals into actionable material, inventory, and production capacity plans. The position provides leadership with visibility into constraints, risks, trade-offs, and opportunities across a complex, multi-site, high-mix manufacturing environment.

This position is approved for remote work only in specific states. To be considered, candidates must currently live in one of the following states: Arizona, Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, or Wisconsin.

Essential functions include designing, implementing, and leading a formal monthly SIOP process, establishing an integrated demand planning process, developing rolling forecasts, partnering with Commercial and Program Management teams, translating demand plans into material and production capacity requirements, incorporating supply risks into planning decisions, developing and maintaining rolling capacity plans, presenting planning gaps and business risks to executive leadership, leading inventory planning strategies, facilitating cross-functional alignment, supporting new product introductions, establishing and monitoring SIOP and demand planning metrics, analyzing planning performance, promoting disciplined use of ERP and planning systems, and developing planning standards, governance, roles, and decision-making processes.

Leadership responsibilities include leading by example, communicating organizational priorities, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement, supporting employee development, developing and executing functional strategies, establishing performance standards, influencing business decisions through data-driven analysis, and process development and continuous improvement.

Competencies include SIOP and integrated business planning, demand forecasting and analysis, supply and capacity planning, inventory and working capital management, electronics supply chain knowledge, business and financial acumen, data analysis and decision-making, cross-functional leadership and influence, executive communication, process development and continuous improvement, risk identification and scenario planning, and ERP and planning systems proficiency.

Qualifications include a Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or a related discipline preferred, APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM, CSCP) a plus, 10+ years in supply chain/operations planning, with 5+ years in a SIOP/S&OP leadership role, experience in EMS, contract manufacturing, or complex multi-customer/high-mix electronics or industrial manufacturing environments strongly preferred, deep understanding of electronic component supply chains lead times, allocation dynamics, and BOM-driven planning, track record of building a SIOP process from a low-maturity starting point (not just running an existing one), strong ERP/planning systems experience (e.g., Kinaxis, or similar); Excel/data fluency, analytical rigor combined with strong executive communication and cross-functional influence skills.

Physical requirements include ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based work, ability to use a computer, keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment for prolonged periods, ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through electronic communication methods, ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift office materials up to 20 pounds, ability to visually review documents, reports, spreadsheets, and computer displays with or without corrective lenses, ability to move throughout office and production areas as business needs require, ability to travel as required by business needs.

Mental requirements include strategic thinking, sound judgment, independent decision-making, ability to analyze complex information, evaluate risks, resolve conflicts, manage multiple priorities, make timely decisions in a dynamic environment, effectively communicate, influence, coach, and collaborate with individuals at all levels of the organization while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality, strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and the ability to balance short-term operational needs with long-term business objectives.

Work environment includes professional office, electronics manufacturing, remote, and travel-based environments, regular interaction with production areas, exposure to moderate noise levels, fluctuating temperatures, production equipment, soldering operations, automated machinery, and general manufacturing activity, extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, computer-based work, and occasional lifting or movement of materials consistent with job responsibilities, compliance with all operational, safety, ESD, quality, and company policy requirements across all work environments.
