Audio Visual Technician

Location: Laredo, Texas
Work Environment: On-site; City facilities and event locations
Schedule: Schedule may include extended or irregular hours, shift work, evenings, and weekends.

Position Overview

LaneStaffing is seeking an Audio Visual Technician to support audiovisual production and Public Access Channel operations for the City of Laredo.

This position assists with the recording, editing, production, and distribution of audiovisual programming; supports live and recorded City meetings and events; sets up and operates audiovisual equipment; and maintains accurate records of audiovisual projects and programming.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with video production, audio/visual equipment, editing software, live event production, and multi-camera environments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Record and edit audiovisual content captured in studio and field environments.
• Capture, edit, and produce programming for the City of Laredo Public Access Channel.
• Set up, test, operate, and break down audio/video equipment for City meetings, events, and special programs.
• Record and post City Council and committee meetings.
• Support audiovisual production for Planning & Zoning meetings, Finance and Operations meetings, Civil Service hearings, special City Council meetings, public events, ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings, political events, and other assigned programs.
• Prepare and operate audiovisual equipment within City Council Chambers and other City facilities.
• Upload captured content to editing systems and prepare completed video files for distribution and/or broadcast.
• Encode, schedule, monitor, and maintain programming for assigned public access channels.
• Operate and monitor audiovisual master control equipment and programming systems.
• Maintain audiovisual files, production records, assignment logs, archives, and programming information.
• Update spreadsheets and other records related to scheduled and completed programming.
• Assist with live and recorded field productions, including parades, community events, meetings, fundraisers, and other City activities.
• Operate video cameras, audio systems, lighting equipment, production switchers, recording systems, and related audiovisual equipment.
• Support multi-camera productions and perform technical production functions as assigned.
• Assist the front office with customer needs, incoming calls, and general business activities as needed.
• Maintain professional communication and telephone etiquette when interacting with City staff and the public.
• Drive a City vehicle for authorized City business as required.
• Arrive on time and prepared for scheduled meetings, productions, and events.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

Candidates should possess knowledge and/or experience in the following areas:

• Television, video, or broadcast production.
• Digital videography and photography.
• Video and audio recording, editing, lighting, and production techniques.
• Live event and multi-camera production environments.
• Audiovisual equipment setup, testing, troubleshooting, and operation.
• Audio/video master control and programming environments.
• Video cameras, audio mixers, PA systems, lighting systems, video switchers, recording equipment, and related production technology.
• Apple/Mac and Windows-based production environments.
• Video and photo editing software and digital media management.
• Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
• File management, archiving, encoding, and digital content distribution.

Experience with professional broadcast and production equipment such as Sony video systems, Ross production systems, Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, TelVue, XDCAM, audio mixing systems, PA systems, and similar audiovisual technologies is preferred.

Candidates should also be able to learn new equipment and production systems quickly.

• Maintain the physical condition necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Additional Requirements

• Must be available to work long or irregular hours, shift work, evenings, and/or weekends as required by City meetings, productions, and events.
• Must maintain a valid Texas Driver License and acceptable driving record.
• Must be able to drive a City vehicle for authorized City business.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, and verbally in Spanish.
