The responsibilities of the Lead CNC Machinist are:
- Operates machine tools in a production environment to manufacture parts in accordance with specifications, blueprints, and work instructions.
- Leads and assigns daily work activities for Machinists and Machine Operators to support production priorities.
- Supports machine shop supervision with production scheduling, workload coordination, and short-term planning.
- Provides leadership and technical support for automation initiatives, including lights-out and unattended machining.
- Collaborates with Programming to set up, prove out, and optimize new and existing part numbers.
- Works closely with Jig & Fixture Tool Makers, Machinists, Supervisors, and Management to improve processes, tooling, and throughput.
The skills/experience required for the Lead CNC Machinist role are:
Minimum GED qualification
At least 5 years CNC machining experience (milling, turning or grinding)
Very strong ability to read engineering drawings
Background in part programming with varied controls
Ability to work in a busy machine shop whilst managing multiple machining centres
Leadership capability with the interpersonal skills to train others, with an ambitious personality looking to progress your personal career
Excellent communication skills
