Database Administrator

Job Summary:

The Database Administrator 2 is responsible for the planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems. This role involves ensuring database performance, security, and data integrity, as well as supporting database design, implementation, and troubleshooting. The administrator collaborates with programmers, analysts, and users to optimize database environments and support business intelligence and reporting functions.

Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain production databases by entering and managing codes and utility programs.
• Monitor database performance, including record distribution and memory usage, and perform performance tuning.
• Direct programmers and analysts to modify database management systems and review/correct programs.
• Answer user inquiries and provide technical assistance related to database use and changes.
• Evaluate and incorporate user requests for new data elements and systems into the database environment.
• Coordinate data use to ensure integrity, control redundancy, and reorganize or load databases as needed.
• Perform logical and physical data modeling, including relational database design and prototyping.
• Implement database security, recovery procedures, and disaster recovery monitoring.
• Create test database environments and execute backup and recovery procedures.
• Assist with database software installation, benchmarking, threshold testing, and selection of management tools.
• Ensure user interfaces comply with accessibility standards and provide support on accessibility issues.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum 5 years of experience with database management systems and data warehouse management.
• Expertise in data warehouse development, implementation, and maintenance including data marts.
• Proficiency with business objects and data dictionary development.
• Experience using database access tools for application delivery.
• Strong skills in analysis, planning, and management reporting.
• Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
• High-level analytical skills to solve unusual and complex problems.
• Understanding of benchmarking processes and techniques.
• Strong interpersonal skills for teamwork and motivation.
• Knowledge of data warehousing techniques such as Star Schemas, Snowflake Schemas, and normalized models.
• Experience with GUI-based ETL tools like Informatica, IBM WebSphere DataStage, or similar.
• Implementation experience with enterprise-class databases such as Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, or similar.
• Experience with analytical and reporting tools such as Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, MicroStrategy, or similar.
• Proven ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical teams and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Working knowledge of EIR Accessibility standards and assistive technologies.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with Oracle Database systems.
• PowerBI report creation skills.

Special Considerations:

• Must ensure all database user interfaces comply with accessibility standards.
• Ability to support users in resolving accessibility-related data access issues.
