Day in the Life:You, like us, pursued veterinary medicine because of a passion for helping pets and their people. The Arizona Humane Society's Healthy Tails Mobile Clinic (HTMC) is an essential part of our public clinic services, providing low-cost veterinary care to communities that may otherwise have limited access. Services include wellness exams, vaccinations, preventatives, diagnostics, high-volume spay/neuter, and general medical appointments. By bringing care directly into the community including Phoenix area events and visits to Native lands throughout Arizona. HTMC helps increase access to veterinary care, prevent the spread of disease, and support a One Health approach.This position follows a 4-day work week and requires travel throughout and outside the Phoenix metro area. Some trips may require the team to be out of town for up to seven days. The Staff Veterinarian will evaluate patients, perform physical exams, determine appropriate diagnostics and treatments within AHS's spectrum of care, and communicate treatment plans with clients. The veterinarian must be comfortable performing 30–40 high-volume spay/neuter surgeries per day in a variety of settings and conditions, as well as other procedures such as amputations, gastrotomies, cystotomies, wound care, and enucleations. The role also includes mentoring staff, volunteers, and veterinary externs, working in other AHS clinics as needed, and serving as a compassionate front line ambassador for AHS.Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate electronic medical records, monitoring and documenting controlled substances in accordance with DEA requirements, advising leadership on clinic activities and opportunities for improvement, and completing continuing education requirements for Arizona DVM license renewal. All Mobile Clinic team members are required to drive the mobile clinic as needed and are designated as safety sensitive positions. Job Requirements:One year of experience in a veterinary practice, with an emphasis on surgery skills and spectrum of care.Must possess above-average surgical skills and a humane attitude toward animals and people.Good communication skills are necessary.Knowledge of or experience in Community Medicine, with a focus on Access to Care, is a plus.Valid driver's license.Must be 21 years of age or older.Must have an acceptable driving record and the ability to pass drug and background screenings to be insured as an AHS driver. Physical Demands/Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors, and dander. The work environment will consist of outdoors and within the mobile unit.
