Job description

UMC Per Diem Position Summary

As an academic medical center with a rich history of providing life-saving treatment in Southern Nevada, UMC serves as the anchor hospital of the Las Vegas Medical District, offering Nevada's highest level of care to promote successful medical outcomes for patients. UMC is home to Nevada's ONLY Nonprofit Level I Trauma Center, Verified Burn Center, and Multi-Organ Transplant Center. In 2026, we became the FIRST and ONLY Magnet-Recognized hospital in the state, reflecting UMC's nursing professionalism, teamwork, and superiority in patient care. Per Diem Openings Position Summary: Develops, implements and participates in customer related programs. This includes promoting the program in the community, serving as a specialist and resource person for hospital staff, and providing service within the program.

Job Requirement

Education/Experience: Graduation from and accredited school of nursing and three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in the appropriate specialty area. Licensing/Certification Requirements: Valid License by State of Nevada to Practice as a Registered Nurse. Some positions may require Certification in a Specialty Area and/or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted by the American Heart Association (AHA); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS American Heart Association (AHA); Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) & Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Additional Position Requirements

Preferences will be given to applicants who document the following:

  • Experience with education, outreach, data review and presentation, meeting management, and performance improvement process as it relates to Burn care and patient matters.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of: Performance improvement principles and methods; specific area of clinical nursing or program focus; Regulatory Accrediting body, State and Federal standards; community agencies with interests in relevant services; Nurse Practice Act; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage and use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures; age specific patient care practices. Skill in: Developing programs; nursing principles and practices; developing policies and procedures; applying grant writing and grant management techniques; applying needs assessment techniques; applying adult education practices; developing public relations; applying cost accounting methods; organizing and prioritizing among conflicting priorities; applying team building concepts; facilitating groups; performing statistical analysis; using computers and a variety of software applications; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms. Strength and agility to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 50 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
