Controller

The Controller leads the overall accounting function, owning the monthly close, the accuracy of consolidated financial statements, internal controls, and accounting policies. This role partners closely with the Chief Financial Officer to build out FP&A, investment analysis, and cash flow forecasting capabilities that enhance reporting and support strategic decision making. The Controller also plays a key role in preparing materials for banks, the Board, and private equity sponsors, while supporting audit and tax compliance activities and developing a high-performing accounting team.

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly close and consolidation process for all domestic and international entities, ensuring timely, accurate, and complete financial results.
• Partner with the Accounting Manager to enhance and automate multi-currency consolidation, including currency translation, intercompany matching, elimination entries, and consolidation journal entries.
• Deliver a comprehensive and accurate consolidated financial reporting package each month.
• Apply and document US GAAP positions, in coordination with the CFO, across key areas such as revenue recognition, leases, inventory and standard cost, accruals, and impairment.
• Maintain and continuously improve the chart of accounts, accounting policies, balance sheet reconciliation standards, and day-to-day internal controls.
• Support the execution of the annual audit by promptly responding to auditor requests and ensuring appropriate documentation and schedules are available.
• Assist with tax compliance by coordinating with tax advisors, responding to requests, and maintaining a monthly and annual compliance checklist to keep all filings current.
• Partner with the CFO to build a sustainable FP&A process grounded in accurate actuals and a clear understanding of the cost structure.
• Deliver monthly variance reporting against prior year, budget, and forecast that clearly explains operational drivers and highlights improvement opportunities.
• Lead the creation of monthly and quarterly reporting packages, including covenant compliance calculations, adjusted EBITDA bridges, and KPI reporting, for presentation to lenders, private equity sponsors, and the Board.
• Maintain oversight and controls over cash flow across all entities, ensuring appropriate visibility and discipline in cash management.
• Support the development and maintenance of a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast and monitor working capital performance to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Assist in building and reviewing financial models for capital expenditure requests, including NPV, IRR, payback, and sensitivity analyses.
• Help administer the capital approval process by providing clear, data-driven recommendations and analysis.
• Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team by setting clear expectations, building individual development plans, and ensuring continuity of core accounting functions.
• Cultivate a healthy, high-standards team culture focused on accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and ensure financial implications are understood and properly reflected in the financial statements.
• Use Deacom ERP and other systems to support general ledger activities, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance.
• 58+ years of progressive experience in public accounting or a corporate environment.
• Strong foundation in US GAAP and the ability to apply technical accounting guidance to complex transactions.
• Hands-on experience with accounting, general ledger management, consolidations, and international accounting.
• Proven experience managing month-end close processes and performing detailed reconciliations.
• Experience with financial reporting and multi-entity environments.
• Ability to lead and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
• Analytical and creative problem-solving skills with a flexible approach that can accommodate evolving business needs.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop strong teams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Experience using ERP systems, with specific exposure to Deacom ERP considered highly relevant.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• CPA or CMA certification.
• Prior experience with multi-entity and multi-currency consolidation.
• Prior experience with ERP systems, data analytics, and AI tools.
• Knowledge of standard costing, inventory valuation, and variance analysis.
• Experience working in a growing organization backed by private equity, with exposure to lender and Board reporting.
• Familiarity with cash flow forecasting, working capital management, and capital investment analysis.
• Experience preparing covenant compliance calculations, adjusted EBITDA bridges, and KPI dashboards.

Work Environment

This role is based in an office environment and follows a Monday through Friday onsite schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Controller works closely with the CFO, the accounting team, and cross-functional partners in a collaborative, growth-oriented setting. The organization is in a phase of expansion under private equity ownership, offering opportunities to build and enhance processes, systems, and reporting capabilities. The role relies on modern ERP technology, including Deacom ERP, and standard office productivity tools such as Microsoft Office. The work environment emphasizes professionalism, accuracy, continuous improvement, and a supportive team culture.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Ferndale, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $135000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Working to get benefit list - They are starting a 401K match at 4% early next year as well as HSA accounts
