Role Overview:

We're looking for a Construction Engineer to provide technical oversight and quality/compliance verification on build-outs, tenant improvements, and capital projects across CHAOS's multi-site manufacturing, lab, and office portfolio. This role travels domestically and internationally to CHAOS's active job sites, reviewing in-progress and completed work against construction documents, codes, and specifications, and making sound, on-the-spot technical judgment calls in CHAOS's best interest when questions of compliance or quality arise.

Responsibilities:

• Travel to active CHAOS construction and tenant improvement sites (U.S. and international) to inspect work in progress and verify compliance with construction documents, specifications, and applicable codes/AHJ requirements.
• Based out of El Segundo, California
• Review contractor and subcontractor work quality, materials, and installation methods against approved plans and specs; identify deficiencies, code gaps, or deviations.
• Serve as a technical point of contact during site visits for general contractors, subcontractors, architects, and engineers on questions of compliance, specification intent, and quality standards.
• Exercise sound judgment to make or recommend field decisions in CHAOS's best interest when conditions, conflicts, or ambiguities arise on-site, escalating significant issues to the Director of Facilities.
• Support RFI review, submittal review, and quality-control walkthroughs; document findings and punch items.
• Prepare clear, organized site visit reports and inspection documentation (photos, findings, recommended corrective actions) for the FM team and stakeholders.
• Coordinate with EHS/Compliance and cleared personnel on any work touching secure or classified spaces, without independently managing classified scope.
• Support acquisition due diligence and new-site onboarding by assessing physical condition, code compliance gaps, and buildout scope.
• Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation from site visits: inspection records, findings, and correspondence.

Minimum Requirements:

• 5-8+ years of experience in a construction engineering, project engineering, quality/compliance, or field inspection role on commercial or industrial projects.
• Working knowledge of applicable building codes, permit/AHJ processes, and standard construction specifications.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings and specifications.
• Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate site conditions and make sound technical judgment calls.
• Comfortable working across multiple concurrent, geographically distributed projects with limited on-site support infrastructure.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to produce clear, concise site reports.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively, both domestically and internationally (travel expected to scale with active build phases).

Preferred Requirements:

• Experience with manufacturing, lab, or cleanroom environments.
• Experience working on defense, government, or other secure-facility contractor sites.
• Familiarity with SCIF/ICD 705 construction requirements or willingness to work alongside cleared personnel on secure builds.
• Experience reviewing BAS/BMS and controls tie-ins on mechanical/electrical systems.
• Eligibility for a U.S. government security clearance.
• Passport/ability to travel internationally without restriction.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $160,000

The stated compensation range reflects only the targeted base compensation range and excludes additional earnings such as bonus, equity, and benefits.
