Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Technical Architect / Forward-Deployed Engineer to work closely with the team in Hayward to build and evolve the core Modutecture platform.
This role sits at the intersection of:

• Deep system design
• Production-grade engineering
• Customer and real-world workflow understanding

You will operate across platform, product, and infrastructure realities, helping shape both how the system is built and how it is used in real environments.
Key Responsibilities

1. Build the Core Platform

Design and develop foundational systems powering the Modutecture platform

Define modular components across:

• Data ingestion and processing
• Digital twin systems
• Application services

Establish scalable patterns for:

• APIs
• Data models
• Service-to-service interactions

2. Develop the Digital Twin & Data Layer

Build systems that:

• Aggregate institutional and project data
• Enable reuse of intelligence across projects
• Support lifecycle visibility from design through operations

Create unified data models for:

• Assets
• Components
• Project and state lifecycle

3. Forward-Deployed Engineering

Work closely with:

• Internal product and engineering teams
• Construction stakeholders
• Early customers

Translate real-world workflows into:

• Product features
• Platform capabilities

Rapidly prototype, deploy, and iterate solutions in live environments

4. Simulation & Visualisation Systems

Contribute to:

• Unity-based visualisation and simulation layers
• Digital twin interaction systems

Ensure strong alignment between:

• Underlying data systems
• Visual representations
• Operational and analytical insights

5. Cloud & Infrastructure

Build and scale systems on Microsoft Azure, including:

• Data pipelines
• Backend services
• Real-time processing layers
• Implement and maintain:
• CI/CD pipelines
• Observability and monitoring
• Scalable, resilient infrastructure patterns

6. Product & Technical Direction

Partner closely with leadership to shape:

• Core platform capabilities
• Long-term system evolution

Identify opportunities for:

• Extensibility
• Integrations
• Ecosystem and platform growth

Required Skills & Experience
Core Engineering & Architecture

• 8+ years of experience in backend, platform, or systems engineering
• Strong experience building:
  • SaaS platforms
  • Data-intensive systems
  • Distributed architectures
• Deep understanding of:
  • API design
  • Event-driven systems
  • Scalable system architecture

Programming

• Strong hands-on experience with:
  • Python and/or Java
• Proven ability to design, build, and ship production-grade systems

Data Systems

• Experience building:
  • Data pipelines
  • Data models for complex, evolving domains
  • Systems supporting long-lived datasets

Simulation / 3D (Preferred)

• Experience with:
  • Unity or similar real-time engines
• Understanding of:
  • Mapping structured data to visual and simulation systems

Cloud & DevOps

• Experience with:
  • Microsoft Azure (preferred)
  • Docker and Kubernetes
  • CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with:
  • Infrastructure-as-code practices

• Comfortable:
  • Working directly with users and stakeholders
  • Operating in ambiguous, rapidly evolving environments
• Ability to:
  • Translate workflows into real systems
